The drill marks are forward far enough that the back of the vise doesn't engage at that spot to close. It is working fine and locks up tight, there are a few other small drill marks as you can see. You are looking at a Palmgren No 10 machinist vise. This is a top quality tool and as you can see the jaws are fairly precise and still in very good condition. As you can see in the pictures it has some imperfections scratches. Nicks etc& some cleaning/paint touch-up or you could just use it as is. I am selling it cheap because it may not look perfect, however it is still as precise as the top quality instrument that it is. The ruler in pictures is not included.
