Vintage Columbian # D43 1/2 - M4 (3&1/2" jaws) used mechanic machinist vise
Very nice Vintage Columbian bench vise. This 3 and 1/2" wide jaw vise opens to handle 3 and 1/2" stock. It has been cleaned up and clear coated. This is a well built Vise. And has a good size to weight ratio. It operates smoothly and the jaws close squarely, which is typical of a Columbian vise. This old war horse still functions like new except for the fact the previous owner had apparently tapped on the handle from time to time with whatever was handy. You will notice a few nicks in the handle as well as a slight wave. Which is barely noticeable, except in these close up pictures. The Vise will be packed well and may be disassembled for shipping purposes. Thank you for looking!

i have heard about these micro sized vises but have never actually owned one until now. from what i've read THEY ARE RARE& HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE! probably the 1st& last one i'll ever see& own. i purchased the vice at a ranch house estate sale& auction last year. i'm not sure how old this vise is but my estimate is late 1800's- early 1900's. i say that because most of the tools being sold were in that vintage. the family i purchased it from said the grandpa was the original owner of the tools being sold. the old man passed away in the 1950's. he had worked as a metal worker. Machinist& a jeweler. i bought this along with some old micrometers, calipers& a complete old 19th century Greenfield tap& die set(for sale in my other auction) i can't believe how small& stout this thing is! it ... morelooks like a REAL VISE BECAUSE IT IS A REAL VISE! this thing is HEAVY built very well. works perfectly. jaws measure 1 1/8" across. not sure who its made by from research i've done online i think it looks most like a Holands Reed, Prentiss or Chasparker vise but you be the judge. says No. 3 on one side& it appears like there is an eroded stamping on the other side. but it is clearly not legible.

Up for your consideration is an all American made vise. This is a Columbian vise mode. 205M2. This vise has been completely refurbished. This has new parts installed during the refurbishing process. The new parts include a complete set of new pipe jaws, the center swivel bolt,swivel bolt cam and the swivel bolt washer, and the main bolt post. All threads were cleaned, chased and lubricated This was stripped down to bare metal, cleaned, then primed and painted with two coats of Rustoleum industrial enamel. Columbian D44 Bench Vise, Refurbished Condition, Made in USA
Up for bid is a very clean Columbian D44 bench vise. It was refurbished a while ago but needed some other work before it could be sold as a complete vise. Everything was stripped off and painted or polished to look better then when it was made new. The anvil area was resurfaced and has plenty of life left in it. When i got the vise. It was missing the bolt that holds the swivel base to the main casting and the center bushing for that bolt. The bolt was replaced and i turned out a new bushing on a lathe so it works as good as new. The vise has 4" jaws with a max opening of 6" The throat depth is 2 3/4" and weighs approx 21lbs.

I was floored when I unwrapped the blanket holding this vise. I don't know how long it sat under a work bench in this garage I was cleaning out but the situation obviously kept it in like-new condition. I had to give it a mild cleanup and I did remove old lube and reapply some synthetic blue grease on all the friction surfaces. I'm going to say something that sounds like hot air but I'll say it any way. I've had a lot of vises pass through my shop but I think this is the absolute nicest one I've seen yet. It's in pristine condition and it operates beyond smooth, it feels very precise and very fluid. Just look at the jaws, both the main jaws and the pipe jaws, they look like they did the day they were cut. Every edge, every raised cast letter, looks as sharp and crisp as the day it rolled out of the foundry in Cleveland. ... moreThis is a magnificent bench vise that absolutely anybody would be proud to have bolted to their work area. I promise you, you'll find yourself fondling it out in the garage when nobody is looking and wonder where the time went. Vintage Cast Iron Columbian Swivel Bench Vise # 43 1/2
Nice old Columbian swivel bench vise. Made in Cleveland. Ohio. Original red-paint surface. Model# D 43 1/2 When closed. The vise is 10 1/2" long x 5 3/4" high. Jaws are 3 1/2" wide and close nice and tight. The beam is 1 1/2" x 1 3/4" Swivel base is approximately 4 1/2" diameter. With(3) 1/2" mounting holes. Handle is 6" long. Swivel lock handle is 3 3/8" long and has a slight after-market bend. Barely noticeable. The vise has no rust. But has some use-wear, some paint loss, scratches and some shallow nicks. Pictures show everything. Bid with confidence, this is a nice vintage vise. Vise has a 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" flat anvil section with a 3/8" diameter"pritchel" or"hardi-hole" in it for tool inserts.
