Included in the stack are: 8655A Synchronizer/Counter. 8654B Signal Generator 10-520 MHz, and 11710B Down Converter. I didn't photograph it, but there's a service jig circuit board extender for alignment of the 11710. If additional manuals turn up, I'll revise the listing to reflect that fact. The owner tell me: On the HP. The down converter provides and external frequency reference for the counter/synchronizer ... moreso the down converter's LO will cancel out drift error. The Counter/Synchronizer permits you to frequency lock the analog RF generator to a frequency so it won't drift. The RF spectral output should be fairly pure, low in harmonics, or at least lower than a synthesized RF generator. What it won't have is good phase noise performance. I'd prefer not to break this up and sell it piecemeal. But if you are prepared to make a serious offer for one or two of the 3 pieces and don't need the rest, feel free to contact me about it. For sale is this recent pull from service. HP-5334A frequency counter which was just acquired from a local defense contractor. It is clean, passes self-test, and provided stable readout of my home lab sig gen for a period of 1 hour. It also has a nice feature where the 10 MHz reference clock can be input or output via rear panel BNC. Other than the functionality mentioned above I cannot verify the calibration or other more specialized functions. This counter while clean does show slight signs of normal use and does have some rub/scuff marks on the covers etc from normal lab use. I purchased several of these counters and the unit you get may or may not be the exact one shown in the photo. But note they are all very similar in looks and operation. With a basic sensitivity of-33 to-23 dBm. Signals in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 520 MHz are measured by the direct count method. Signals in the frequency range of 500 MHz to 26.5 GHz are down-converted to an IF by a heterodyne conversion technique for application to the counter circuits. The unique conversion technique employed results in high sensitivity and FM tolerance in addition to automatic amplitude discrimination. The counted IF is added to the local oscillator frequency to determine the unknown frequency for display. This counter has Option 001. Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator Time Base and Option 011. HP-IB Interface. When I got this counter. The ... moredisplay was intermittent, the HF 3.5mm connector was broken, and the LF BNC connector was a bit deformed. Reseating a circuit board solved the display problem. And I replaced the LF and HF connectors with good connectors from a non-operating instrument. I cleaned all the stickers and residue off, added bottom feet and bails and I then added Option 001(High Stability OCXO Reference Oscillator) burned-in the instrument for 24 hours, and performed all the adjustments as outlined in Chapter 5 of the Operating and Service Manual: Power Supply Adjustments. Main Synthesizer Adjustments. Offset Synthesizer Adjustments. IF Adjustments. Direct Count Adjustments. I then burned-in the instrument for another 24 hours. HP 5381A Frequency Counter Up for auction is a very accurate HP 5381A counter. The Schlumberger counter in the pictures IS calibrated and I have adjusted the HP to match it. The first picture is measuring 10 Mhz. Then 23 Khz, then 25 Mhz. As you can see it is right on the money! Never a problem before. Up to 26 GHz. The counter is within Specs of-20dB. At 26 GHz and up, the counter is at-15dB. Still within HP- Agilent Specs for this counter. You loss about 5 dB at these top frequencies.
