This sale is for a functional 5370A counter/ time interval meter. I last used the time interval function a few years ago and it worked fine. As you can see from the pictures as a counter it works fine. I believe it is working correctly and will take a return within 15 days. What is unusual about the 5370A is the time interval function and the statistical functions built into the unit. As a time interval unit it has a 20pS resolution. With the statistical functions it can pull the min. Max, mean, std deviation. As a counter it has an adjustable time base and allows an external reference. Its complexity is beyond our complexity(we do crochet) and so we asked a complex electronics friend to comment. He said: 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Looks like this is an Average Period Time Interval Meter. The"period" in measured in seconds. Fractions of seconds, tens of seconds. Etc. The electronic signals representing event"A" and event"B" are fed into the two BNC connectors between the"sensitivity" controls to the lower right of the instrument. The selector switch just to the right of the readout has positions for the ratio of period"A" to period"B" The frequency of"A" the period from event"A" to event"B" The period ... moreof"A" the period of"A" times 10 and a test position. It also has a sensitivity adjustment for"A" and"B" inputs with a time interval scaling selector switch just to the right and below the display. The"A" and"B" input trigger levels and slope controls are above each input connector. The switch on the back turns on the temperature controlled oven for the internal frequency standard which supplies the reference for all of the instruments measurements. Apparently it was a very expensive unit when purchased. It uses"Nixie" tube readouts which went out of general use in the mid to late 70's. It looks like it was"rack" mounted in a standard 19 inch panel. It is a specialty instrument used to measure such things as the time for the transition of a signal from one point to the other with proper sensing gear. It could be used to measure the average speed of a baseball. For instance, if a range was set up with optical sensors to sense the baseball at two points separated by a precise distance. The A22 board is marked Series 2044, and by looking at U19,20, 23, and 27 it would appear that the A22 has a date code below 89351 from the manual. Since the ROM is the 5370-80009 this would correspond to the 2904Axxxxx serial series of the 5370B. So, even though the original 5370A was built in 1980, it looks like it has been updated to about the 1989 level of production. This unit is a good counter to start with. But really shines in Time Interval mode where it has 20ps single-shot resolution. There are also several math functions, and with averaging even higher resolutions can be obtained.
