Clean, and accurate Heathkit IM-4120 frequency counter, period meter and event counter for your bench or"shack" The Heathkit IM-4120 is perhaps the most versatile counter/timer ever offered by the Heath Company. Its Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator(TCXO- lower right in 5th photo) gives it accuracy that is right on par with the most expensive equipment that was available at the time. And its several functions were enough to set it above most of the rest. The IM-4120 measures frequency to eight digits with two inputs- a 1 megohm high impedance input that's useful to above 50 MHz and a 50 ohm low impedance input that spans the frequency range from 40 MHz to 250 MHz. For very low frequency signals. Just switch to the PERIOD ... moremode and measure the period of the signal. Take the reciprocal and you have the frequency- with eight digits accuracy! For occasional events, use the counter mode to total them. What more could you want from a frequency counter! This instrument has been recently calibrated and is shown in the second photo measuring the 10 MHz output of my rubidium frequency standard. Selecting the KHz gate, as shown, displays an extra digit of resolution. I found this counter will accurately measure frequency to over 380 MHz at Heath's specified sensitivity of 25 mV input, as shown in the third photo. The SM-2420 is the factory wired version of the IM-2420 kit- perhaps important if you want to be sure it was done correctly. The SM-2420 covers the range from 5 Hz to over 50 MHz at its high impedance input, and from 40 MHz to 512 MHz at its 50 ohm terminated input. Its PERIOD function enables you measure the interval between events and to accurately measure very low frequencies(the reciprocal of the period) It will also measure the ratio of two frequencies applied to its dual inputs. this is the Heathkit Schlumberger sm 4130 this counter has served me well over the past 10 years. This is a vintage Heathkit frequency counter. It is in good condition and works well. The frequency range is 5hz-50mhz on channel A. And 40mhz-512mhz on channel B. It has a crystal oven so it is very accurate. It has been sitting in the closet for awhile, but turns on and seems okay.
