Most counters count the number of incoming pulses over a unit of time and display the result. The resolution. Or number of digits displayable, is only good for what that smallest time unit will allow(often 1Hz) As the frequency goes lower, you will lose resolution(the number of displayable digits) This counter belongs to a class of counters that really determines the period of the incoming signal to a fine degree and then it performs a little math, inverting the result(taking the reciprocal) which then gives frequency. THIS IS A VERY NICE UNIT! The HP 5334B is a 1.3 GHz counter. This unit has the factory high stability timebase option. This is a unit which we kept as a spare in our avionics shop, it is not some junker from the bottom of a surplus pallet. In the 10 years or so that we have had it, I don't believe we've ever used it.
