1960's ENM Metal Hand Held Tally Counter - English Numbering Machines / Chicago
This vintage tally counter was produced in Enfield. UK in the 1960's by a company under the name of English Numbering Machines. It may then have been imported into the USA by a company based in Chicago, Illinois. The American company took on the initials ENM as their own name and have been operating since 1957, and are still today manufacturing high quality machinery. So perhaps this counter was sold and stayed here in the UK, or perhaps it was one of the thousands of pieces that made its way to the US. It is made of metal. Sits well in the hand, with the finger operated push-button on the top above a four reel counter- 0000 to 9999- and a dial at the side for re-setting the numbers. There is also a small metal chain at the base. Its main use is as a people counter- school sports days, concerts/gigs, amusement parks and rides, traffic ... moreanalysis, counting inventory. It is in full working order with no damage. A nice handy vintage item. It measures 8cm in length including the top button but excluding the chain and 4cm across including the dial.
