NH a few weeks ago and one of my goals was to purchase a frequency meter. I found an early Heathkit that was all banged up, purchased it, and then came across this nice looking Fluke. It was plugged in and lite up as you see in the first photo. I was told that it works great! So, I purchased it. Perhaps I'm not setting it up properly, but I can't get a reading. For offer is an unserviceable Hewlett-Packard model 5315A 0-100 MHz frequency counter. I believe the display section is faulty-power supply is OK and 10 MHz oscillator are working. And input triggers appear to work based on LEDs, but display only lights up during power on self test(see photo) May be an easy fix for someone with the complete service manual, or useful for parts. After warm up all readings are erratic and incorrect on bands 2 and 3. Band 1 works fine all the time, and a 10 MHz measurement from a GPS time base can be seen in the second picture. I got this 20 years ago with plans to repair it but never got a round tuit. I don't know if there are parts missing inside but there is not a"handle" on top and no feet on the bottom. The B input connector is damaged but might be used if straightened out some. not sure. The time base is working and measured close to the 10 Mhz it is supposed to be. The gate flashes in some modes but nothing gets counted. It is pretty clean inside and I was able to clean all label debris. HP 5342A Microwave Frequency Counter powers up. But the display does not work. The LED power indicator lights up when powered on, but no display. Not fully tested. The HP 5342A Microwave Frequency Counter measures the frequency of signals in the range of 10 Hz to 18 GHz. With a basic sensitivity of-25 dBm. Signals in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 500 MHz are measured by the direct count method. Signals in the frequency range of 500 MHz to 18 GHz are down-converted to an IF by a heterodyne conversion technique for application to the counter circuits.
