Ronsstuff VINTAGE SUPERIOR POWERSTAT VARIABLE TRANSFORMER Vintage Superior Powerstat variable transformer variac in good working order. It has been tested and works fine. There is no handle but it can still be used easily by just turning the part the handle was attached to. The person that tested it drew up a simple schematic(see pic) for it's use. Here is a Variac brand vintage dial(0 to 130) transformer. This came from a working environment but I am unable to test. My husband had it wired to use standard wall plug in on dedicated circuit and the other end attached to a large kiln. I sold kiln before finding the transformer. So I can only assume it still works. Appears clean, dial spins smoothly, with only normal use and age chipping. I took the“plug” area cover loose and took a photo of inside(see pix 11)in case that helps you with more knowledge and tried to take photos to show copper insides, bottom, and all angles. Staco Variac Type 2510 Vintage Motorized Light Dimmer by Pilot Ind Controls MPLS
What we have here is a large vintage motorized Light Dimmer with large Staco variac. It was made by Pilot Industrial Controls Inc. MPLS MN, USA. I believe that it started its life as an early motorized light dimmer and is mounted in very nice metal box with a latch and swing out door that looks to have been bolted to a wall. The box is about 15 inches wide. 12 inches from front to back and about 10 inches top to bottom. There is a large and cool looking Bakelite knob on the front that attached to a large Staco variac in the box. Staco Type 2510 Input- 120V Output- 0-120/140V 50/60 HZ 25A 3.50 KVA The knob is designed to have a belt(don't have the belt) that’s runs to a pulley attached to a motor a little larger then a sewing machine motor. There are 2 relays mounted on the front of the cabinet and 2 movable clamps attached to the metal ... morepart of the large knob. By moving the clamps to differ ent locations the relays will stop the motor at predetermined voltages. I have two of these but the auction is for only one! I had planed on making a foot controlled variac but never got to it. While there is no reason this should work correctly. It is untested and sold as is. Up for auction are two variacs. Both are rated for a 60 Hz 120 volt input line. With outputs selectable for 0-120& 0-132 VAC. The Staco 2.5 amp unit is a tested/working autotransformer. Giving a smooth output as the shaft is rotated. The 1.75 amp. Model 10B Powerstat is being sold for parts or repair, since the contact brush is missing, as seen in the last photo. I did test it anyway and found the output varies up to the rated voltages. But without the brush, the output was erratic. Mount the 2.5 amp variac in a case with connections to allow a vintage tube item(such as an amp or radio) to be connected to the output. By bringing up the voltage slowly(sometimes over several days) It is sometimes possible to“reform” the capacitors. Please remember for safety sake. I found this boxed up in my dad's collection of electronics. I really don't know what it is used for but it appears to be in good condition. My dad was involved in film/music production and took very good care of his items. This thing is pretty heavy. I am not sure of its value but I hope someone will be able to use it and appreciate it.
