This item is in fair condition with some cosmetic wear including rust and paint chippings. The power cord has a few cuts or frayed areas but does not effect the functionality. See photos below for more details. We plugged in the item and tested it using a volt meter. As we turned the dial the volt meter read a low voltage. Once we reached 40 on the item item the volt meter started reading the correct voltage. We also tested the AC plug with another item and it worked properly. The transformer in excellent condition. And works just as it should. I tested it with my volt meter, and confirmed it does vary the voltage, however I only got up to 120 volts. This is a well made. Main issue is that the fuse switch/box on the front is missing. see picture#5) I opened the unit up and it appears that someone put a in-line fuse in its place? I can't really tell because of the pour tape job? Unit is missing 2 screws(one on each side) But the other 4 screws( 2 mismatched) seem to hold the cover in place. Easy Fix) Unit probably had someones name on it and when it was removed it took the paint of with it. see pics#s 6-10) ALSO: Unit has several scratches. Old Superior Electric Powerstat Variable Auto Transformer 120v 18 amps working This is a pre owned used antique Superior Electric Powerstat Variable Auto Transformer type 51028 with a maximum output of 18 amps. Definitely a lot more than most of them As you can tell by the pictures it is in working condition and physically it is also in great condition. As you can also tell by the pictures at 20 volts on the indicator it is accurate. When you crank it up to 115 volts it actually is producing a little over 122 volts. The indicator is adjustable and I don't know if there is some internal adjustment they can be made to correct this. I do not find is a problem at all.
