We installed new grounded power cables on this unit. It is in excellent working condition with some cosmetic flaws including chipped/ scratched paint and some markings from the previous owner, these do not affect the performance. I found this piece in a basement. Still mounted to the plastic dome you see. The dome doesn't weigh much, so shipping would be only a little less without it. The variac has a 115 cord and plug, but also has a 115 cord and outlet. This may have been used as a dimmer in a light fixture, but I don't know what the dome was for. We are buyers. Information plate on front of unit indicates a Max KVA 1, and 7 ½ Amp. Large upper control knob turns smoothly without binding, voltage rises gently without intermittent drop-outs or surges, and voltage output is consistent with calibration marks. Cosmetics are not the greatest with some blue paint chipped off the housing, but you’re probably not shopping for cosmetics when you need a good variac. Up for auction is this used Superior Electric variable transformer or powerstat. Type 200-CM. 10 amp outlet, on/off switch works but needs replaced. The unit shows alot use, you can't read the dial anymore and the adjustment knob has writing and engraving on it but operates fine with no humming and no dead spots. Offered is a vintage POWERSTAT from The Superior Electric Co. of Bristol. Conn. USA. This is a Type 20, for primary voltage of 120 and 60 hertz. Max. Output of 3 amps. I recognize this as a type of variac. But know nothing else about it. Has been sitting around in a dusty environment for years and is dusty and dirty. I do not know how to test it, but the shaft does turn freely and smoothly. I see that the windings just to the left of the bare area, in the vicinity of terminal 4, are a slightly darker color. I have tried to show this in the pictures. No knob or dial. The brown plastic/bakelite around the shaft is chipped or chewed up. The applied decal with hookup instructions is chipped and not intact.
