It could be placed between the line and the primary of the high voltage transformer of a maximum legal input ham amplifier, in order to adjust the plate voltage, or used to slowly bring up vintage tube gear. It appears these two transformers were either ganged together with a third variac that is not included. Staco Variable AC Transformer. Works nicely. I bought for a project. But went a different direction with the components I used. It has a few dings and scratches but is perfectly functional.
