Antique vintage Bausch & Lomb Microscope with Wooden Case
A nice Bausch and Lomb microscope with wooden case. Condition is only fair. As there is a good bit of tarnishing and some pitting on the brass components. The iron parts(small screws) and door lock key do have surface rust on them. Case has a few paint splatters on it. See image 10. There are two(2) eyepieces. Approximately 14" when extended and 12" when retracted. Wood carry case is 6 1/2" x 8" x 14" Box and scope for shipping will weigh approx. 16 lbs. Key works to lock case. The brass pieces show slight signs of wear due to the trace of time. The company that made this microscope. E. This is a great Unitron Phase microscope. Number 105118, complete it it's original wood case! There are several lenses; a Phase DM 10, Phase DM 20, Unitron 4, Swift Zoom(10X up to 20X) and a Unitron WF 10X. The first three have cases in a holder for them, they are attached to the microscope, the other two are in the fitted wood slots with the top cover to the microscope. There is also a Unitron LLV attachment and the original instruction book dated 1963. Excellent condition, needs a light dusting. Nothing is loose, broken or damaged, and it does screw into the box to keep it safe. A great piece! All photos have been taken in bright light and with macro. The switch has a plastic toggle that is broken off, but still works. There is a piece missing on the lamp holder(see picture) and the holder has scratches. The lamp is working. The device projects microscopic images onto a wall or table for group viewing. Would be great for a classroom. I am not anything close to being a scientist so it is completely out of my league to give a really good description. In my novice opinion only all of the lens are in acceptable condition. They may need to be cleaned. We did shine a flash light on the mirror with a dirty cue tip over the hole and were able to see an image. Other than this the item is untested. Basically I wouldn't know how to thoroughly test this item. Both of the eye pieces that you look in slide out and are removable. Please look over all the pictures carefully and make sure this is a good item for you because I will NOT accept a return. Estimated 1950's Rotary Microtome for cutting thin sections of histopathological or other specimens. Made by quality manufacturer- C. Reichert Optische Werke AG in Vienna. Austria, probably around 1950. A microtome is a mechanical instrument used to cut biological specimens into very thin slices for microscopic examination. A sample of tissue is prepared and placed in paraffin wax block which is mounted on the microtome and moved toward the blade of the microtome. As the block is moved toward the blade. Very thin flat sections are cut for each upward movement. These sections are very thin and translucent and are studied with a light microscope. This microtome ... morehas a green finished metal casing. On the side is the rotary hand wheel which. When cranked, moves the specimen up and down and towards the blade by the set thickness. The specimen holder rotates to the desired angle. Cutting sections are obtained in different thickness by adjusting a knob located on the rear: range 1-25 microns. On the front is the stage for the microtome blade. The blade holder unit rotates to the desired angle for best sectioning. It has forward and backward movements to ensure contact of specimen with the knife. Weight(approx) 19 Kg Overall condition is good for age. There is wear to the handle and some surface corrosion to bare metal components. The case has some marks to the finish. Internally it is clean and seems to have been kept well lubricated. PLEASE EXAMINE PICTURES. I have tested it to the best of my ability. As there is no blade I made up a blade from a Stanley knife(this is not included as it could be dangerous) My homemade blade cut acceptable sections in wax. Pine and an apple. But I have never seen one quite like this. I am not sure how old it is, but I would consider it vintage. There is no model number present. It is in fair overall physical condition. With a few small scuffs and marks here and there. The optics look to be in fair condition, with no cracks. However, there are some dust particles present in the eyepieces. I've shown a close up in the photographs. The paint is rubbed off in places and some rust has formed on the body from age. All of the parts move smoothly. This old piece looks like an industrial mid century malt maker. But it is nothing that yummy. It is an aluminum Ken-A-Vision x1000 micro projector, model 301. I was told that it worked when I bought it, however when I got it home it did not. It doesn't seem to power on at all, although it might just be a bulb(I'm not at all sure) It looks like there were three different lenses for the unit and there are now only two,the power cord is cracked/brittle,and there is screw missing from the top. The base measures 11"W x 10"D and it is 26 1/2" tall. Shipping includes tracking.
