Auction Wizard 2000 Listing Template- AW2KLOT#18 Reichert Nomarski Interference Contrast Module. Modified for Leitz This is a classic Reichert Nomarski interference contrast device. Originally intended for use with their inverted MeF-1 metallograph, or with a Zetopan research microscope fitted with the universal opaque illuminator. It is suitable only for work in reflected light. It consists of a module housing that is fitted with a fully adjustable Wollaston prism. A broad flat lever adjusts the height of the prism(to even out the fringes so the sample is uniformly chromatically illuminated) A second lever adjusts the lateral position of the prism so an appropriate'background' color may be selected for contrasting. This system has an interesting modification. The original dovetail clamping slide used to fix the housing to the Reichert ... morevertical illuminator has been removed. In its place has been installed an RMS-threaded coupling ring. This ring is provided with rotation capability so the prism may be correctly oriented with respect to the analyzer and polarizer of the microscope. This particular instrument was intended for work with a Leitz microscope equipped with an infinity tube lens. I am not sure what range of Leitz objectives are suitable for the contrast module. The inside of the cabinet lid states the following: INTERFEROMETER MeF 1 or MeF 2 Leitz: P certified strain-free use on infinity corrected system best to use w/Leitz'uscope can use w/ or w/o Leitz PLEZY The two adjustment levers. When correctly oriented, barely clear a typical rotating nosepiece. It may be advantageous to add a 5mm spacer to provide additional clearance. Obviously, this system will not be parfocal with other objectives on the nosepiece, and because of its overall length precludes the use of any other objectives when it is installed. For that reason, it may be best used on an inverted metallograph such as the MM-5 or MM-6 equipped with the single-position nosepiece. Also note that contrary to what was stated on the lid
