The brass against the black make this microscope a wonderful scientific display piece. 1) The removable Eyepiece Lens is marked on the barrel, Carl Zeiss Jena(engraved in script) The screw out eye optic(unscrews from the short barrel of the eyepiece lens) is marked, 6 Compens- Ocular. The bottom lens of the eyepiece(one that inserts in the top of the microscope) looks good. The top glass lens of the eyepiece has scratches and tiny pits(they do NOT show up in the photo) A guide fiber or hair has been internally attached(about rim to center) and can be seen when viewing. Wear and a some marks to the knurled ring. Turret objective lenses are: 1) The thinner objective lens is marked ... moreon the barrel, C 11 C. ZEISS C 5102(brass part near lens) Wear and tarnish. Shining a light at an angle on the front lens it looks good. 2) The shorter of the thick objective lenses(dull barrel) is marked, 3 E. Leitz Wetzlar Ind U 2. Wear. It is in nice used physical condition. Powers on, lights function, the motorized revolving nosepiece that holds the objectives functions properly, however the switch feels a bit loose. One of the eyepieces won't turn to focus, we are not sure if it is stuck or not. Both of the light sources that connect to the back of the microscope work properly, as well as the power supplies. The Schott light source also functions properly. The camera powers on however we are unable to test any further as we do not have the interface card that connects to the computer. There is a small dent/paint chip on the top of the unit and a scratch on the brown part of the plastic ... moreas you can see in the picture. It also functions both as a stereozoom(dissecting) microscope with illumination from above. And as a compound microscope with illumination from below. This microscope has a removable stage with a glass center and a mirror for viewing transparent objects via substage illumination. It has a 5-step fixed magnification changer(0.6; 1; 1,6; 2,5; 4) and although t he base and stage is from a more current version of Zeiss microscopes than the head. All parts from the Zeiss SM I, II, 11 and IV are all 100% interchangeable. Cosmetically, this fine instrument may show the wear of years of use in a geochemistry lab, but it is in 100% working order. The optics are clear and sharp. The base/stage is outfitted for both reflected light and transmitted light. And it has an under stage mirror and two illuminator lamp socket holders, complete with the lamps.
