Antique vintage Bausch & Lomb Microscope with Wooden Case
A nice Bausch and Lomb microscope with wooden case. Condition is only fair. As there is a good bit of tarnishing and some pitting on the brass components. The iron parts(small screws) and door lock key do have surface rust on them. Case has a few paint splatters on it. See image 10. There are two(2) eyepieces. Approximately 14" when extended and 12" when retracted. Wood carry case is 6 1/2" x 8" x 14" Box and scope for shipping will weigh approx. 16 lbs. Key works to lock case. Serial no. is: 82039 This will clean up and look nice as a display piece. Thank you for looking.

Four objectives( 3 brass) 4 mm 0.65 43X, 16 mm 0.25 10X, oil immersion; 160.0 mm 1/12 1.32NA. 4th objective is(silver so I assume)steel-oil immersion: 1.8mm 1.25 97X, in its own case. Double-sided mirror, illuminator which is a Beck and Kassel made in Germany. bulb works.Also has a small container with a blue glass and i believe the other is a dark ground stop. as well as a third glass that was already there in microscope. see photo#7.there ... moreis also a bracket, i assume for mounting under the stage not sure. Wooden case has label on inside of Bausch and Lomb. The case has a holder on side for objectives with cases. hold 10) the case does have a crack in the back see photo's and is dirty.Dusty with marks towards the bottom edges. microscope does need cleaning. has usual wear marks from usage. this was stored for many years in basement. belonged to my mom who was a med tech. when i looked up the serial# it is from 1923. microscope and case is very heavy over 23 pounds. The brass against the black make this microscope a wonderful scientific display piece. 1) The removable Eyepiece Lens is marked on the barrel, Carl Zeiss Jena(engraved in script) The screw out eye optic(unscrews from the short barrel of the eyepiece lens) is marked, 6 Compens- Ocular. The bottom lens of the eyepiece(one that inserts in the top of the microscope) looks good. The top glass lens of the eyepiece has scratches and tiny pits(they do NOT show up in the photo) A guide fiber or hair has been internally attached(about rim to center) and can be seen when viewing. Wear and a some marks to the knurled ring. Turret objective lenses are: 1) The thinner objective lens is marked ... moreon the barrel, C 11 C. ZEISS C 5102(brass part near lens) Wear and tarnish. It is a horizontally mounted Greenough type stereo microscope mounted on a large and elegant pillar stand. There is a rack& pinion drive at the top of the pillar with which the height of the instrument may be altered through a range of about 40mm. The carrier post is triangular in cross-section. On top of the triangular pillar is a rotating joint that carries another rack& pinion drive for focusing the microscope. The rotation is clamped using a small knurled screw tucked away underneath the larger focusing drive knobs. The microscope itself is relatively compact. But carries a revolving nosepiece on which two objectives may be mounted. Both objectives are numbered to match ... morethe serial number of the microscope, so they were probably matched to the instrument at the factory. A pair of wide field 10x oculars is included that appear to be original. The alignment of the objectives is very good, however one of the objective pairs does exhibit some delamination in one of the elements. It will still image, however. I did not see the magnification engraved on the objective pairs. Cosmetically. The instrument is in spectacular condition– the chrome plated knurled knobs are pristine and completely free of dirt or grime! There are a very few small chips in the black lacquer of the pillar base. The only other thing I noted was the rotating bearing for the microscope body appears to have been bored slightly off-axis, so the microscope does tilt ever so slightly to the side. This is definitely a factory‘error’ as there is no wear or any sign of damage anywhere on the instrument. I am uncertain as to the function of the instrument. But it may have been part of an optometry station, perhaps for use with a slit lamp illuminator. This is a Baush and Lomb Binocular Microscope purchased at a surplus sale from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. It has an Aluminum stick on tag with that info with their inventory number 025054. It has Biol. Dept. NMSC painted on the base and the same lightly engraved with an electric pen on the outside of the right leg. Both eye pieces are marked 15. The three settings are 0.7x 1.4x and 2.0x.It is stamped on the right hand top BAUSH& LOMB OPTICAL CO.ROCHESTER N.Y. U.S.A. 220544. On the setting dial at the top it says PAT. 3 29 1927 and around the dial the three settings. In the middle of the dial it says BAUSH& LOMB OPTICAL CO. U.S.A. ROCHESTER N.Y. I have never taken anything apart or removed anything and I believe it is 100% complete. The glass plate on the base has a bullseye on the right front corner. All adjusting mechanisms work as they should. It is black lacquered solid brass. With the exceptions of the tubes of the eye pieces. This is a stunning very high quality late 19th century solid brass Bausch and Lomb(Arthur H. Thomas) microscope. it is made from thick brass and is an extremely heavy piece. it is marked on the base by maker and has a serial number in the back"52826" it is a very intense piece with lots of mechanical movable parts. all parts move freely and work good. it is a very precise instrument and very well made. it has a beautiful cow bone handle on the side as well. everything seams to be in working order with no damage. Amazing Antique Microscope: According to Internet research(I am not an expert when it comes to antique scientific equipment) This is a… Bausch& Lomb CCS7 Continental model research microscope from c1900 made in New York. Rack& pinion coarse focus& graduated wheel. Screw fine focus. Triple rotating nosepiece and four objectives. It has a rotating stage with centering screws and slide clips, rack& pinion sub-stage with Abbe condenser, and a rack& pinion mounted adjustable diaphragm. The sub-stage mirror is plano-convex. The draw tube is graduated from 150 to 230mm for different objectives. Measures 15" tall x 5" in base width x 6.5" thick(base) Condition wise this microscope has natural patina. All the dials function and move freely. The construction is amazing. It’s extremely heavy and the action on the dials ... moreis still smooth as butter. It is dirty and needs to be cleaned(by someone more knowledgeable than me) before use. If that’s even your intended purpose, the lenses& mirror need attention before you can clearly make out enlarged images or even see how well it truly functions. I have not done anything to tarnish the finish or try and buff the brass into shinning as that may not be the wish of it’s new owner. The similar ones I have seen for sale are not the round stage ones( round stage models are older than the rectangular ones) But most others appear very shinny and while beautiful, I don't know that they had that polished finish new in the early 1900’s. This one is missing the case that it came with new and two of the three objectives appear to be non original(newer stainless finish one is dated patent 1925) Three additional eyepieces are included. Not sure if they fit, but they do not look original– one is stamped univ. of Mass. These were extremely expensive new in the early 1900’s too– I saw something about this model being $137.50 new– for comparison Ford Model T’s went for as low as $260 new in the 1920’s. This is an antique Bausch and Lomb microscope. If you are looking than you are looking at cool. Someone tried to paint box white. Little love can clean it up. Seems to be working with nothing broken. I pictured wooden trays. Not sure but looks as if some may be missing. This thing is heavy duty!
