RADIO SHACK FREQUENCY COUNTER PROJECT BOARD FULLY ASSEMBLED
WOW! This auction is for ONE Radio Shack Model 277-111 Frequency Counter Project Board fully assembled and working! Built from an NOS PC board. These project boards were once sold at Radio Shack back in the late 1970's and 1980's. Most people who bought these Project Boards purchased the needed components over time therefore most of these projects were never completed. Often these boards were built by amateurs who could not solder well and the project never worked. This unit has been professionally assembled on a steel frame and includes all of the features offered by this project. All of the chips are socketed in machine-tool sockets. The manual calls for the use of the 74LS47 BCD-to-7-Segment Decoder Driver chip. Instead of using this chip I used the more advanced 74LS247. The two chips are pin-for-pin the same and functionally ... moreidentical except the-247 lights up the"A" segment when displaying the number"6" and the"D" segment when displaying the number"9" Making the display more legible. I also installed Molex connectors on all wires that go from the chassis to the PCB making it easy to remove the PCB from the steel frame. Originally this project calls for using the Radio Shack Universal Display Board to mount the digital displays. Since this board is hard to find. I made my own PCB. Works the same and is custom wired to support the large 1 inch displays. There is one thing you should know however. I did not have the required 1.9 MHz crystal so I installed a 2 MHz crystal. The unit works but is off by a tad. This can be remedied by replacing the 2MHz crystal with the 1.9 MHz crystal specified in the manual. You can also change the timebase to use the 60Hz option but it does not work as good and is unstable at times. Other than that. It is fully functional and works perfectly. Probe is NOT included. When I first powered it up, one of the digits in the LED display took about a minute to"warm up" before it came on, but it was working just fine after that, as you can see in the photos above. Despite the fact that this is a Heath product. It was factory assembled and NOT a kit, so there should be no worries about substandard workmanship or bad soldering. This counter was last calibrated in 1974 at the factory, but it was tracking the input frequency from one of my employer's brand new HP signal generators pretty closely when I was testing it. 1960's Beckman Dual Preset Reversing Counter 3302/5-1 Discrete Transistor Works An ancient[as electronics go] 1960's Beckman 3302/5-1 Dual Preset Reversing Counter with beautiful discrete transistor boards driving column style 0-9 readouts visible on the front panel. I took a chance and powered it up slowly using a Variac and damn if it didn't light up and seems to be working[it's not been tested. just powered up] To my eye anyway. an impressive example of early instrumentation in nice condition and likely working! I've taken lots of pictures to show condition. very similar to Beckman's earlier vacuum tube units with the same style readouts visible through slots on the panel. Classic made in the US test instrument. These were often used in nuclear test labs of the period to indicate and monitor particle counters.
