Fine Vintage SPENCER Brass Microscope with XY Mechanical Stage The microscope is in excellent+ condition with just a few very minor marks to the black enamel finish. The dark spots that appear on the brass hardware in the photos are reflections and not wear to the brass surface. The precision Spencer XY mechanical stage is in excellent condition. The microscope is equipped with the following Spencer brass objectives: HOM.IMM 1.8MM NA. 1.25: 95X 4MM NUM. APER. 0.66: 44X 16MM N.A. 0.25 10X All of the microscope and stage adjustments work smoothly and properly and all of the optics are clear and in excellent condition. The serial number is 109766.

Up for auction is an antique AO Spencer compound binocular microscope with two 10X eyepieces and 3 objective lenses– AO Spencer 43X NA.6. Bausch& Lomb 32mm.010, and Hertel& Reuss Kassel 45:L NA.0.65 f=4. In what I would call VG used condition, made mostly of painted brass, everything turns/moves/rotates/adjusts fine including eyepieces width adjustment, it looks like the mirror is missing but the focusing lens and adjustable iris is here and works fine,and I am not sure of the condition of the optics, though the lenses are somewhat dirty. The item on offer is a Spencer. Model 46M, monocular metallurgical microscope; the serial number is 219621. I believe this microscope was likely manufactured about 1940. The all Spencer optical components consist of a focusing ocular with linear scale reticle(likely 10X, but unmarked) and seven objectives: 3.5X NA 0.09, 5X NA 0.20, 10X NA 0.25(829611) 20X NA 0.50(277622) 40X(670543) an oil immersion 95X NA 1.25(896793) and an unmarked low power scanning lens. Each objectives is in a quick-change dovetail mount that fits the dovetail of the vertical illuminator. There are two filters that fit the vertical illuminator, and extra bulbs for the illuminator. The stage of the microscope can be moved up and down via its rack and pinion mount, and locked, to allow the examination of large samples. The microscope is fitted with a mechanical stage. ... moreThe fine and coarse focus motions are smooth, as are the mechanical stage motions. Examination of the objectives with a hand lens reveals no obvious defects. The cosmetic appearance of the microscope is good, noting general wear to the enamel finish consistent with its age, and institutional initials scratched on the side of the mechanical stage. The microscope case is structurally sound, but the leatherette finish shows wear and the handle to the case is a replacement. The key for the case is present. Here is a front objective lens for an American Optical AO/Spencer Cycloptic Stereo microscope. These lenses are apochromatic. Indicating they are very highly corrected for both spherical and chromatic aberrations. The last photo in the listing is taken from a 1975 American Optical Catalog and provides you with an idea of the quality of these lenses. Here is a great way to protect your American Optical AO Spencer microscope head. During transport or storage. This is an original American Optical microscope carrying case, in excellent condition. The lock is in great condition but I do not have the key. The door hinges are intact and tight, and the top leather handle is in excellent, sound condition. The outside finish of the case is also excellent. Inside the case. There is a shelf with a 3-3/8 inch diameter hole for storage of the microscope head. Please note: the microscope head shown in a few of the photos is NOT part of the auction and is included for demonstration purposes only. The case is ideally made for storage of the AO Model 23 and Model 28 microscope heads(and similar) but other microscope heads may fit as well-measure to be sure.
