This is a pair of fiber optic illumination devices for some sort of measuring machine. One is well used and dirty. The other one is clean and neat. The plate on the well used one is 6 inch square with a 1/2 inch input. The plate on the nicer one is 3-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches with a 3/8 inch input. They may be used either for using a strong source like a flash tube or arc lamp into the cable to illuminate the plate, or in reverse by illuminating the plate with CCFLs, long strobe tubes, LED arrays etc for use as a microscope slide illuminator. Chiu Technical Fiber Optic illuminator w Power Supply for Microscope
Chiu Technical Fiber Optic illuminator w Power Supply for Microscope for parts only( really just needs a new bulb) System power is there. We just burned out the lamp when testing. The fan runs and the fuse is good. As with all older style Chui lamps. When closed, the front panel is held in place against a spring loaded internal interlock switch, using a top front thumbscrew. Initially when refurbishing the fan made a chattering noise. Upon close inspection the bottom fan grill was ever so slightly bent inwards causing mechanical interference with one of the fan blades. This is fixed and the fan is essentially typical low noise purrr/ whirrr now( as new) I verified I burned out the bulb. By ohming it out( the bulb remains installed as a help to verify the proper replacement projector bulb type a 15v 150w if I am not mistaken) So after I figured ... moreeverything out prior. The bulb powered up and burned out open circuit in a few seconds at max power setting( my mistake) Also the electrical cord has some outer black rubber cracks that are best taped up with common electricians tape. Buy a new bulb on ebay for about $10-$15 and you'll likely have a great Chui Technical halogen fiber optical lamp for cheap. Also a tiny hint when installing a new bulb. Before installing the bulb in the socket. Inspect if the bulb base pins are slightly skewed to one side perpendicular to the plane of the pins. If assymetric. Install the bulb oriented with the side of the closest gap between the plane/ line of the pins facing downwards in the lamp holder. This helps ensure that the pins enter deeper into the ceramic lamp socket. Making better contact between the lamp pins and the ceramic bulb socket electrical springs. What you see is what you get!
