It is eminently suited for use in the semiconductor industry. The Plan Apo designation means the objective is corrected for a very flat field using the largest diameter oculars with a field-of-view index of 28mm. And the apochromatic color correction is the highest obtainable. The objective is massive. Having a 32mm diameter mounting thread. This lens will only fit the more recent Leitz and Leica metallurgical microscopes equipped with the 32mm thread diameter EPI type nosepieces. These instruments include the EPI version of the Aristomet nosepiece, the ErgoPlan, the DMR metallurgical instruments, and the current DM4500M, DM5000M and DM6000M instruments.
