Auction Wizard 2000 Listing Template- AW2KLOT#114 Leitz Polarizing Cell for Swing-Out Condenser Filter Holder- Scarce This is a bit of a rarity. It is a Leitz polarizer in a special cell that is to be installed in the swing-out filter holders as found on many of the 1950's and 1960's vintage microscope condensers. The holder includes a threaded retaining ring which drops into the 32mm diameter filter recess to which the polarizer filter is threaded. Ideally. The aperture in the chrome housing should face forward when the filter is swung into place beneath the condenser. The aperture is used for two optional wave plates(mica and gypsum. Wave and full wave respectfully) that were in nice chrome cells that fit the holder. Please note that this listing does not include either of the waveplates- they are very scarce and difficult to find) ... moreOnce the holder is fitted to the condenser, the polarizer may be gently rotated to an extinction position which is governed by an analyzer filter which has a fixed orientation with respect to the microscope(usually in a keyed sleeve or fixed in a filter slider) There is enough tension on the polarizer thread that it should remain in place after the adjustment is completed. One item missing from this holder is a thin chrome ring that has a small spring catch and a thumb screw to secure it. This was slipped onto to the sleeve after installing the filter and the spring catch rotated until it clicked over the chrome stop pin for the swing-out filter holder(on the underside of the condenser) It was then secured in position with the clamp screw. This prevented the polarizer from swinging out when wave plates were rotated within the sleeve. Its absence is not an issue if you are not using the wave plates. The foil filter used in these polarizers is of the very highest grade.
