The Microscope has a single 10X WF comp monocular that is in nice shape, and has a custom aluminum camera mount assembly above it. There is a light source that mounts horizontally to the turret, it has about a foot long cord with a four prong plug. The vertical riser raises and lowers with the hand crank as well as the knurled fine positioner wheels. It is unclear if any of these microscope components need work or if any component needs replacement to make it work! Our tests were just a brief once-over to confirm basic mechanical functionality- we have no way of testing the optics and the unit does not come with any objectives! This is a Reichart U.S.A. objective. Which appears in the American Optical catalog as item# 1736. It is a 100X/1.25 plan for oil immersion. This objective is in excellent optical condition. It must have been used with synthetic immersion oil, as the front shows none of the corrosion caused by the old traditional pine oil. It DOES NOT HAVE a retractable nose. This means that it should be used only with A.O. scopes, all of which have retractable nose pieces, OR those specific scopes made when AO/Reichart/Leitz formed a new company. This objective will screw onto any infinity scope with RMS threads. But if it has a traditional move-the-stage rack-and-pinion mechanism, the lack of a retraction mechanism built into the scope would create a nerve wracking situation. This is the latest and the best version of the Universal illuminator. This is the most capable of the several vertical illuminators Reichert produced for their Zetopan research microscopes. It called the Universal Opak illuminator; it is capable of performing: Brightfield with full control of Kohler illumination• Darkfield(with suitable EPI objectives) Oblique illumination(either by decentration of the aperture diaphragm. Or via a rotating disk with an eccentric cutout) Polarized light(Pol filter is not included) Nomarski Interference Contrast with optional module(not included) The light is directed into the vertical illuminator by a right-angle prism ... morehousing which includes a three position slider. First and second positions are open. And the third position contains a rotating disk with an eccentric cutout. This can be used for oblique illumination and is especially useful with samples that have some degree of relief. The disk turns very easily and can be operated when in the optic path. Just in front of the slider is a decenterable aperture diaphragm, eccentricity of which is regulated by a micrometer screw underneath the illuminator. Both the aperture and field iris are fully adjustable. A small milled knob on the left side switches in a central stop when using EPI objectives in the Darkfield mode. When the disk is swung out, the knob can be moved axially to critically focus the field diaphragm in Brightfield illumination. The illuminator uses a fixed Gauss beam-splitter.
