It is in a Beck box so although the objective is unmarked. I assume it is a Beck. Since it has no name or serial number, it may be a one of a kind or prototype. It appears to be in very good, vintage condition and was probably always carefully stored in it's box. The adjustment moves smoothly and is marked 10x in black and 15x in red. The markings on the fixed ring are 0, 05, 10, 15, 20, and.25. On the wood storage blocks are markings on a foil tag that appear to be military so I assume this may be a vintage decommisioned government piece. Enlarge all the pictures and take a close look. Great Old Stereo Microscope! I got it to focus. And the clarity isn't bad at all. The lenses probably need a good cleaning if you'd like to use it frequently. I tried to get a shot through the lens of some lettering and a knife blade. It looked much better through the scope though. You need an outside light source for this scope to work. It works fine if you have a small lamp to plug in and point at the stage. This type of microscope is designed to look at larger objects like a whole insect for example. It will not be powerful enough to view something like an amoeba such as you'd look at with a standard microscope. There is a broken corner on the glass stage and I got a picture of it. The corner doesn't affect how it works. It is basically an antique and would look very cool on a shelf, but you could use it if you like. The optics are clear, with no chips or scratches in the glass(there may be some minor scratches in the lens coating) Both eyepieces contain a diaphragm and the diaphragms are easily removed using your fingers. Trying to limit my collection to B&L only. So here is an item from American Optical. This is a 15x Wide Field American Optical microscope eyepiece. Catalog number 147. This standard 23.2 outside diameter ocular is a well made high magnification eyepiece that can provide higher magnification than standard 10x oculars. The metal construction holds several lenses in position and may be disassembled for cleaning. From it's construction I would guess that it is a Ramsden style eyepiece but do not hold me to that as I have never disassembled the components. It is comparatively rare and a fine addition to the collection of any American Optical enthusiast. Although it is in working condition, it would benefit from cleaning.
