Product Description The Volpi fiber optic illumination systems are among the finest produced. The Intralux 6000 was a top-of-the-line illuminator. It featured a three-position lamp intensity switch alternating between two direct connections to the transformer secondaries(no resistors in series for reducing intensity) The middle position switches off the mains supply. A very quiet cage fan is positioned immediately behind the lamp socket and provides very ample cooling even with the higher intensity selected. Additional regulation of the lamp output is possible using a helical wedge that reduced the amount of light to the end of the fiber bundle. A special dichroic heat filter is interposed between the lamp and the fiber bundle. In addition. There is a slot on the top of the unit for reception of special filter carriers. An empty holder is ... moresupplied with the illuminator. The illuminator uses type DDL halogen lamps(150w 20v) Access to the lamp socket is via a wide door on the top of the housing. Lamps are easily exchanged without the use of any tools. The port for the fiber bundles is 15mm in diameter. And has a small keyway used to prevent rotation of the gooseneck type(semi-rigid) bundles. The lamp socket is in very good condition and holds the lamp very firmly. It may be easily replaced when required using a terminal block accessed after removing the door. Every Zeiss enthusiast will recognize this lamp housing.it normally held the socket for the 200W mercury burner or 100w halogen. It has been enhanced with a fiber optic fixture that accepts a 7mm o.d. glass fiber end or a liquid light guide. This aluminum adapter could also be opened up easily to accept any light guide of your choosing. No socket is included with this unit. It is pretty dirty but you can clean it up yourself and save a bunch of money. The rear mirror cap is removed and you can convert to high intensity LED with the newest from retrodiode dot com Ask them about the"20uZ" that sells for $120 and is quickly inserted in this open port at the rear.
