I have for auction a vintage Precision Apparatus E-400 Sweep/ Signal Generator 5 to 240MHz. I have fully restored it. It has new tubes(8) Capacitors, output cable and polarized power cord. It includes the manual(paper) output cable and a 4.5MHz crystal. I have calibrated it. The pictures show it outputting a 200MHz signal, 100MHz signal and the 4.5MHz crystal signal. I was unable to test(frequency counter does not read“beat” frequencies) the other bands since it uses a high 75MHz fixed oscillator and a low 37.5MHz fixed oscillator to“beat” with the variable oscillator to output bands“A” B” and“D” I did calibrate both fixed oscillators to 37.5 and 77MHz. This is a wonderful piece of vintage test equipment that will complement any bench. Rare Vintage Hewlett-Packard Vacuum Tube HP 200C Audio Oscillator, circa 1950
Own a piece of H-P history! Maybe you can't have an original H-P 200A. But this unit comes close. The instrument up for auction is an H-P 200C. It is a later version of the design on which Bill Hewlett based his master's thesis. And the product that launched the Hewlett-Packard company. You can read about the original H-P 200A here: The H-P 200C covers the range 20 Hz to 200 kHz in four bands. I tested the unit with an oscilloscope and a frequency counter. It produces a nice sine wave. But the frequency calibration appears to be significantly wrong. For example, when set for 20, it produces about 15; when set for 200, it produces about 150. No attempt has been made by me to clean or restore the unit. Just from a cursory observation. The power cord, binding posts, 3 electrolytic capacitors, and the mounting feet are not original. Please ... morenote that the original binding posts are missing and a more modern pair have been installed in an alternate location. I have no idea why this may have been done. As the hole spacing for both sets is the standard ¾ inch. Here is a link to a 200C Operating Manual(with schematics and calibration instructions) Unfortunately. One has a 1/4" output jack and the other has dual banana jacks as output connections(also called option 2) I have had these units for about 7 years and have only used them a couple of times. I did power them on and test them last week and found some dirty selector switches on them. after I used the switches a half dozen times. They seemed to clean themselves and start to work fine. I am selling these units as is, no returns. the Units have scratches and discoloration from normal use. Their serial numbers are B500270 and B020619. Both of them were was last calibrated in 1999. Because the frequency range stretches from 100kHz up to 170MHz, they are useful on Shortwave, AM, FM, Aviation com and VOR systems as well as a test system to interface to a GPIB controller to test electronics equipment. I have fired them up and connected them to a frequency counter(which will also sell on ebay once I get all the generators gone) with a 50ohm attenuator which shows the transmitting frequency, so they work. From what I can tell, something like a Panasonic 81 series, a Kenwood 5150, or a Kikusui 4310 are similar. HP Hewlett-Packard 200CD Wide Range Oscillator Audio Generator. WORKS!
This is a great example of HP's first product. The wide range audio oscillator. The first edition was the 200C and this is the upgraded 200CD. I bought this at an equipment sale when working for HP in the 80's. It works well. The switches and pots need a shot of contact cleaner, but the sweep dial works perfectly. I'm downsizing so this needs a new home for someone who can appreciate audio history and can use it for setting up and measuring audio equipment. Works! I tested the four ranges that I could hear.
