I would definitely replace it before applying power to this unit. Heathkit G-1 Signal Generator The Heathkit G-1 provides RF output from 150 KHz to 34 MHz in 5 ranges. The dial has the third harmonic of the highest band calibrated to 102 MHz. The G-1 was obviously designed with surplus sealed capacitors with two of them prominently mounted on the chassis. The first high voltage filter cap is a 1 mF sealed cap. Tubes are 6SN7 as the oscillator and amplifier and 6X5 as rectifier. The 400 Hz modulation audio is generated by a neon relaxation oscillator fed to the grid of one section of the 6SN7. Heath started advertising surplus electronics in Radio News magazine in August 1947. In the November 1947 issue. Heath advertised its first kit, an oscilloscope made partly with surplus parts. Heath soon followed up with other test equipment kits using inexpensive surplus parts wherever possible. Their first RF signal generator model G-1 first appears in the January 1948 issue. And was used to test and repair their early tube type business band radios. These radios were very similar to early tube type Ham radios I have tested this unit and all functions seem to work. The calibration seems to be correct. This is a vintage type item. And the metal case has a hammertone type of finish that seems to attract grime in the nooks and crannies. The case could use a good cleaning, as it has sat on a workbench unused for many years. Two of the knobs are replacement items It is mounted in a STRONG METAL- CARRY CASE. This unit was manufactured in the USA when the country still made high quality test equipment. As opposed the the newer lower quality items now made in China. Vintage Heathkit Model G-1 Signal Generator, clean, No reserve!
Heathkit G-1 Signal Generator. Dials and selectors feel good. Looks quite clean. Previous owner's name is written in Sharpie on top of the unit. I was unable to plug this unit in and test due to the fact that the power cord has dry rotted. I would definitely replace it before applying power to this unit. Heathkit G-1 Signal Generator The Heathkit G-1 provides RF output from 150 KHz to 34 MHz in 5 ranges. The dial has the third harmonic of the highest band calibrated to 102 MHz. The G-1 was obviously designed with surplus sealed capacitors with two of them prominently mounted on the chassis. The first high voltage filter cap is a 1 mF sealed cap. Tubes are 6SN7 as the oscillator and amplifier and 6X5 as rectifier. The 400 Hz modulation audio is generated by a neon relaxation oscillator fed to the grid of one section of the 6SN7. Heath ... morestarted advertising surplus electronics in Radio News magazine in August 1947. In the November 1947 issue. Heath advertised its first kit, an oscilloscope made partly with surplus parts. Heath soon followed up with other test equipment kits using inexpensive surplus parts wherever possible. Heathkit Audio Signal Generator SG-72A like SG-72 IG-72 & IG72A
Here is a vintage. All tube, Heathkit audio signal generator model SG-72A. This unit is identical to the IG-72A except from what I understand, the S denotes it was factory built. As you can tell from the faceplate silkscreen, the SG-72A was made after Schlumberger bought Heathkit. Other nearly identical Heathkit generators to this one include the IG-72 and the IG-9. This unit is very clean and very presentable in your shop. I touched up some paint chips on the black case and installed the banana jacks where a BNC connector was mounted. The banana jacks are not Heathkit originals. But look very similar. Because of its age, this instrument has some minor flaws. Note that the lettering in the area of the INT/EXT switch is slightly faded. There is some tarnish around the banana jacks. The meter face has some haze just above the adjustment screw, ... morebut the scale area is clear. These are just some of the more obvious flaws. Please take a close look at the pictures for more details. This generator is fully working. I calibrated it. But please note that my test equipment, though good enough for rock'n roll, probably wouldn't meet NBS accuracy. Case in point is my B&W Model 400 Distortion Meter which measured less than 0.1% distortion. But I bet my trusty 400 is not very far off. One of the pictures shows the scope trace of the actual output. Included is a bound copy of the IG-72 manual.

This vintage Heathkit IG-42 RF signal generator serial# 095645 has been refurbished and is in good physical and functional condition. It has a frequency range of 100 KHz through 31 MHz in five bands controlled by a front panel band switch and a frequency control. I replaced the(3) filter capacitors. 7) paper capacitors, and cleaned all switches and potentiometers. All the tubes tested well within specs. I observed a good RF signal across all bands on my oscilloscope. Heathkit IG-102 RF Signal Generator Exc Working & Cosmetic Condition
MODEL. FEATURES, CONDITION: Very clean example of the Heathkit Model IG-102 RF Signal Generator will prove to be a valuable instrument to have when aligning radios. Etc where you can switch in the on-board modulation circuit or externally modulate a signal on top of the RF signal. RF sine signal is adjustable from 320 KHz all the way up to 110 MHz in six adjustable steps. Smoothly geared tuning condenser has great stability, and the dial pointer is accurate, closely matching the proper frequency calibrations. Photos of the electronics will show that this unit has seen very light use with no discolored or heat stressed components. To ensure reliability, the old 22uF electrolytics were replaced with new ones rated at 200V. Pots and switches have been properly cleaned and work well; the band selector switch is somewhat stiff, but does engage ... moreat each stop. The odd obsolete connectors that this unit came with were replaced with more modern BNC bulkhead connectors that will allow much more flexibility with today’s test equipment, cables and adapters. The unit has been tested, and the sine waves are clean without distortion, and maintain good amplitude throughout the frequency ranges, switches and pots work as they should. Modulation circuit works as well, and it was interesting to have a radio nearby to listen to the beat note and whistling as the IF and RF frequencies were being matched. Cosmetics are excellent if you can pardon a very minor paint chip on the back panel shown in one photo. No dents in cabinet, front panel graphics look excellent, knobs look factory fresh, and finish is holding up beautifully. Power cord is safe and pliable, ruby jeweled pilot light is bright. All in all, hard to go wrong with the beauty of Heathkit that allows the average guy with a soldering iron to service his own equipment a hundred years from now. Heathkit IG-102 RF Signal Generator Tested and Excellent Cosmetically
If you are looking for a very nice Heathkit signal generator. Look no farther. Excellent graphics.The freq range is 100KC trough 220MC in six bands with a 2% accuracy. The output is 50 ohms and the signal can be internally modulated with 400 cps. Now, this is not a lab quality instrument but is accurate enough to align vintage radios nicely. I restore radios as a hobby and use one just like it. The chassis and components are very clean. It is vintage test gear but I cleaned pots and aligned each band to spec. This is demonstrated with the photos. My frequency counter would not go into band F so I did not show the signal on it but it is good. Also notice the last photo that shows the modulated 400 signal. The waveforms show clean with no distortion. To check the calibrated output, just use a digital AM radio works well. Heathkit IG-102 Signal Generator in Excellent Calibrated Condition This signal generator is guaranteed to work as described or you can return it for a refund of your purchase price. Shipping is not refundable. This Heathkit signal generator is in great well cared for condition. It has been checked out and the Heathkit calibration procedure performed. This generator works like a new one and puts out a stable modulated signal from the AM broadcast band up to 22 MHZ which was the highest frequency I could personally check with my SW receiver. I was able to check the frequency output up to 40 MHZ with my bench counter and it worked perfectly to that range. I am sure it is working up to the 200 MHZ range as it should. But I am unable to positively verify that with my bench equiptment. The chassis is very clean wel constructed without corrosion ... moreor other signs of damage or abuse. The generator is very accurate and I have included a couple of pictures showing its output into an HP counter. All chassis components have been checked out. The tubes were checked and found to be strong. All controls operate perfectly and all pots and switches have been cleaned with contact cleaner. The front panel does have some minimal small markings on a couple of places around the dial but they are very minor. see picture 12) As you can see in the pictures this IG-102 is in great condition and has been well cared for. The knobs and case are in excellent condition as are the power cord and the handle. This generator is very accurate across its range and is linear. Compact, and reliable, a great addition to your bench if you are repairing and maintaining broadcast or Ham receivers. Ranges D and E do not change frequency with dial rotation. This sounds like a weak or bad capacitor or some other simple fix. This Heathkit signal generator has dial markings for 100 KHz to 30 MHz in five ranges. So it would be useful from a bit above the audio range, through MW( medium wave) and SW( short wave) bands. The Step Attenuator is marked X1, X10, X100, X1K, X10K Microvolts. It has adjustable modulation, either internal or external. The meter has Carrier Level and% Modulation scales. I plugged it in. And could not get a signal out of it. The bulb in the green pilot light is good, but does not light up. I got an indication on the meter even though there was no output. It appears to be complete and in pretty good physical condition. The rubber feet on the bottom should be replaced. Internally. It looks very good and clean. I just don't have the time to repair it. This is a nice. Clean, Heathkit model# IG-102 RF Signal Generator. I received it as part of a large lot of used Amateur Radio and electronic test equipment. It appears to be in good condition and work okay, but because of its age it is sold as-is- it may need recalibration or other maintenance performed. The only testing I did was to select some frequencies on my ICOM IC-761 HF/Shortwave Receiver, and I was able to hear the output of this signal generator on the Receiver, as I turned the IG-102's frequency dial to match that of the Receiver. The IG-102 Signal Generator has a built-in 400-Hz audio tone generator. And it will also accept an external tone or modulation source, or provide output of the internal 400-Hz tone generator for use with other test equipment. Coarse and fine adjustments are available for the RF output signal, and ... morevariable level control for the internal tone generator. There are Six selectable frequency ranges from 100 kHz to 110 MHz(with calibrated harmonics from 100 to 220 MHz. All of the switches and controls move freely.
