The concept and practice of signal tracing is simple and explained in a few pages in the manual. All the knobs are original and all function properly. Heathkit had permanently attach the probe to this model Signal Tracer.no hunting for probes! A slide switch switches the probe from checking the audio circuits to rf signals. The unit uses both the sound from the speaker and also a"magic eye" tube for visual indication. The eye tube is strong. See photo#8. All the electrolytics were replaced with new units and any resistors out of tolerance were also changed. Both tubes test"good" You'll notice when turning the unit"on" some hum. This is due to the high sensitivity of the tester and the fact that the input grid is at the probe tip permitting it to pick up spurious ac fields. Once you start exploring ... morea chassis and place the probe on a audio or rf point the hum disappears. This unit works fine and is an great aid in troubleshooting problems in vintage radios. Disconnecting the probe line and adding a phono jack w/ matching impedance resistor will turn this into a great little amplifier for the guitar enthusiasts. Caps replaced, out of tolerance resistors replaced, new line cord installed, cabinet repainted. The eye tube is strong. The top handle(not shown) is inside the cabinet if you want to return it to portability. I'm also including my homemade RF probe which is somewhat ugly but fully functional. Heathkit Signal Tracer. Model# IT-12. Works great. There are controls for on/off. Audio level, noise, speaker on/off. It has an eye tube. This can be used to repair radios, amplifiers, ect. All switches, tube sockets and controls have been cleaned. Tubes replaced as needed. Includes a good probe and power cord. This was powered up slowly using a variac to reform filter capacitors. Shows a little age but is in overall very good condition.

Vintage Heathkit Signal Tracer. Model# T-4. Works great. Comes with a copy of assembly and instruction. All switches, controls and tube sockets were cleaned, tubes tested and replaced as needed. Good power cord and probe. This was powered up slowly using a variac to reform filter capacitors. Great for repairing electronic equipment, radio, amplifier and ect. Shows a little age, but is in overall very good condition.

Here is some more test equipment from my fathers Antique radio hobby. Tester is in good condition. There is some fading and small chips in the wrinkle finish of the cabinet. The face is in real good condition. Please see pictures. It does power up. Has white noise, when I touch the end of the probe the sound does change. So I believe it works fine. Vintage Heathkit Signal Tracer Model IT-5283 With Manual Very Nice
Here's a very nice example of this Heathkit signal tracer. You rarely see one that looks this nice. no cracks or damage to the cabinet. You see a little brown spot on the lower front edge that is some sort of paint drop near as I can tell. But I didn't want to try to get it off for fear of damaging the plastic. Comes with a very clean original manual. NO probes are included. Unit operates off 9V batteries that you install inside. Untested and sold as is. No returns. Up for bid is a used Heathkit Visual-Aural Signal Tracer Model T-4. The unit looks to be complete and is in nice overall condition. There is 2 separate probes, one for AF and another for RF, that are plugged in the end of the cable When a signal was applied to the test probe it could be heard from the speaker and the green eye did close, on both probes.
