Here's an HP frequency counter. Powered it up and plugged it into a frequency generator. The reading is in the right neighborhood- might need calibration. But you'll have to handle that. We don't have a way to test higher frequency behavior, unfortunately. We're a surplus store. And we aren't experts with most of this stuff. HP 5316A Frequency Counter Parts or Repair
I got this 20 years ago with plans to repair it but never got a round tuit. I don't know if there are parts missing inside but there is not a"handle" on top and no feet on the bottom. The B input connector is damaged but might be used if straightened out some. not sure. The time base is working and measured close to the 10 Mhz it is supposed to be. The gate flashes in some modes but nothing gets counted. It is pretty clean inside and I was able to clean all label debris. HP 5335A frequency counter in very clean condition with few scrapes and scratches. No sticker residue. It counts it's own timebase and passes the diagnostics. The picture displaying 2.500 is the digital voltmeter option displaying my"Chinese" voltage standard and compares well to my HP 6.5 digit DVM. One picture is the counter reading my old HP function generator set to 10Mhz at 300mv. It does not respond well to signals below that level. The hysteresis and sensitivity adjustment should take care of this but my digital copy of the sertvice manual is so bad I cant make sense of it. I have been using this while testing and repairing various HP RF and Microwave equipment for the last few months. It is clean and reliable. The pictures show measurement of frequencies up to 8.4Ghz which is the highest signal source I have in my home lab. ALso. The pictures show top, sides and rear to be clean and the front panel is free of sticker scrapes, gouges and residue. The freuency measurements are all done at an output of-2dbm and a 10db attenuator for a signal level of-12dbm. I will include power cord and a collection of manuals on USB jump drive. For sale is this recent pull from service. HP-5334A frequency counter which was just acquired from a local defense contractor. It is clean, passes self-test, and provided stable readout of my home lab sig gen for a period of 1 hour. It also has a nice feature where the 10 MHz reference clock can be input or output via rear panel BNC. Other than the functionality mentioned above I cannot verify the calibration or other more specialized functions. This counter while clean does show slight signs of normal use and does have some rub/scuff marks on the covers etc from normal lab use. I purchased several of these counters and the unit you get may or may not be the exact one shown in the photo. But note they are all very similar in looks and operation. With a basic sensitivity of-33 to-23 dBm. Signals in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 520 MHz are measured by the direct count method. Signals in the frequency range of 500 MHz to 26.5 GHz are down-converted to an IF by a heterodyne conversion technique for application to the counter circuits. The unique conversion technique employed results in high sensitivity and FM tolerance in addition to automatic amplitude discrimination. The counted IF is added to the local oscillator frequency to determine the unknown frequency for display. This counter has Option 001. Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator Time Base and Option 011. HP-IB Interface. When I got this counter. The ... moredisplay was intermittent, the HF 3.5mm connector was broken, and the LF BNC connector was a bit deformed. Reseating a circuit board solved the display problem. And I replaced the LF and HF connectors with good connectors from a non-operating instrument. I cleaned all the stickers and residue off, added bottom feet and bails and I then added Option 001(High Stability OCXO Reference Oscillator) burned-in the instrument for 24 hours, and performed all the adjustments as outlined in Chapter 5 of the Operating and Service Manual: Power Supply Adjustments. Main Synthesizer Adjustments. Offset Synthesizer Adjustments. IF Adjustments. Direct Count Adjustments. I then burned-in the instrument for another 24 hours.
