cmi 1" arborist block for the big stuff.
I bought this block last year(I bought it new for $299.95) for a specific job where I needed to bring down bigger sections at a time. As you can see from the pictures the block is as beefy as you can get and is in excellent condition. I only used the block only for that one job. A massive dead ash tree. There are just a few surface scratches on that pretty blue paint job but those are just cosmetic. No burs or marks anywhere that would contact the rope. Though I was dropping some big sections, I came nowhere close to the safe working load(13,500 lbs. by the way) I just wanted a wide margin of safety. RARE 12" Djos Increment Tree Borer, Extremely Fine Quality, Pristine Condition
Purchased recently at an estate sale of a wealthy wood craftsman. Sells new for about $300. Extremely fine quality tool that appears to have only been used a couple times. Update* Brought the tool to work for show-and-tell and a co-worker with a master's degree in forestry confirmed the quality and condition was excellent and better than the one he owns. He has lots of experience with this tool including sharpening them. Please compare the only other increment borer for sale on ebay which costs $195 to this one. The difference in quality and durability is obvious to the layman. I am not sure of age but the same box that this tool came in also had a carpenter's hammer dated 1943. Just researched Djos and found a PDF article on treeringsociety.org dated 2003 about increment borers which mentions Haglof and goes on to say. High-quality ... moreincrement borers were once manufactured in Sweden by two companies, Djos and Sandvik, neither of which today produce borers. The $300 borer I referred to is"Djos style" sold by Sorbus and is not the same quality. This borer has no equal in the retail marketplace. Maple Syrup Tree saver taps (4) with 24 inch drop tubing
Up for bid is a starter tapping kit which includes the 5/16th inch tree saver taps and 24 inches of tubing attached to each. To make your syrup. Tap the tree about 2 feet off the ground, and run the tubing into a bucket. I like to use food grade plastic buckets which you can get from a restaurant or cafeteria. I then drilled a hole in the top and friction fit the tube ending in there to insure sap in perfect condition! Syrup can easily be made by a beginner using and outdoor turkey type fryer pot and heat source. Pour finished syrup in canning jars at 200 degrees and let them seal. Good luck! Syrup season is late this year and there is still time to tap and get some of your own home made maple syrup! Syrup makes a great gift or is a great alternative to store bought syrups and sugars. Great activity to do with the kids!
