Vintage HUTCHISON Black Powder Wood Blasting Splitting Wedge Firewood
Vintage black powder wood splitting wedge marked HUTCHISON MFG CO. Twelve inches long overall, weighing a little over 5 lbs. The head has hammer marks, is mushroomed a bit and has three small splits that don't open to the inside(see photo) I'm not sure if the weld around the fuse nipple is original or not, but the nut is exactly like the nut on a Hutchison wedge that I keep for myself. Wedge isn't badly pitted and overall it doesn't look like this hasn't seen much abuse. This has been cleaned on a fine wire wheel and lightly oiled. Not as shiny as my camera flash makes it appear in some photos.

Offered for Auction: Small Cast Iron Splitting Wedge with Chevron Pattern. I'm calling it a splitting wedge but I'm not certain if it has another woodworking purpose. The cutting edge is tapered but not beveled and the deep chevron design goes to the edges making them somewhat serrated. The wedge has a hole in one side with a channel for perhaps a cord. The wedge is stamped with the number 3002 but is otherwise unmarked. I do not know the age or origin of the wedge. Condition: Good given its age and use. The surface has rust. Discoloration, scratches, dings and nicks. The striking end is flattened and splayed from being struck. The side seams are a bit rough. The cutting edge is not quite straight as shown in the last photo.
