Blacksmith forged iron. You can see how the center pull ring was hammered together. The bolt ends are hammered down to keep and the hooks are all hand forged. Just a real nice authentic pair of logging hooks. These came from the Oroville. California area in the upper foothills. After the gold rush era logging took over as the main industry in the area. Antique Primitive Hand Forged Iron Log Logging Tongs For Lifting Logs Ice
Fresh from an upstate New York estate barn! This offering is for some primitive hand forged logging or ice tongs. These antique tongs have great appeal for decorating. But due to their solid construction, they are still serviceable if one wanted to take them out in the woods for harvesting wood for the camp stove or fireplace. The tongs measure 11 1/4" longs, have a chain link connection, a hand made center rivet and have a maximum opening of 9 3/4" This is a wonderful size for decorating- not so big as to be too heavy for your wall or ceiling. On the other hand, this is a great size for gripping the stove size pieces of wood. The tongs are in excellent condition, heavily made and with a lot of that hand forged appeal. Surface rust makes them brown- as expected.

vintage Gifford Wood Co. lumber log wood ice tongs - Heavy Duty
This is a set of tongs that is marked Gifford Wood Co. on both sides. I assume this was used at the Gifford Wood Co. saw mill or in the forest to move logs. There are no other markings on it. These are very heavy-duty. They weigh 3 pounds 3 ounces. The diameter of each handle at the widest diameter is 7/8 of an inch. When fully opened. The jaws are 15 1/2 inch from prong to prong. When closed, they are 1 1/2 inch distance between prongs. This has some insignificant rust on them which I removed with a soft bristle wire brush. Then I wiped them down with WD-40. This is a great set of tongs for moving logs or firewood which is what I use my other two pairs for. Will also be great for lifting large slabs of ice. Or if you just like, hang them on a wall for the character and atmosphere they will create.

VERY OLD 29 in. SWAMP HOOK PAIR - LOG TONGS - BLACKSMITH FORGED ANTIQUE LOGGING
old pair of Swamp Hooks-or could be light Logging or Hoist Tongs-appear to be hand forged from 1/2 by 2 1/2 in. bar stock iron- each hook measures about 21 by 29 in. tall- some wear: overall rust. Tarnish and pitting-still likely functional. Free Local pick-up is an option. Out-of-country buyers are welcome. But overseas shipping is more. Thank you for visiting our site.
