Hewlett Packard 8690B Sweep Oscillator Mainframe(S/N#937-01634) with Hewlett Packard Model 8697A(S/N# 822-00219) 26.5GHz to 40GHz RF Plug-in. These items both appear functional and the mainframe has the correct scale for the plug-in. The AC Power cord IS included with this instrument. I have performed a quick. Crude test to verify the items operate. The 26.5 to 40GHz RF plug-ins BWO(Backward Wave Oscillator) appears to have good output. I assume this due to the fact that it is easily radiating enough RF output from the Waveguide port to be picked up by the Waveguide harmonic Mixer lying near by that is connected to the spectrum analyzer that I am using to measure the signal. Due to the age of these items and eBay protocol I am selling BOTH of these items for PARTS or REPAIRS since I have not fully checked them out. The Sale DOES NOT include ... morethe spectrum analyzer or Harmonic Mixer that appears in the pictures. They are just there to demonstrate the operation of the RF Sweep Oscillator. The items are in good but not excellent overall physical condition. The plastic dial scale has a small chip missing at the far right side that does NOT affect anything- just mentioning it to be complete and the muffin fan in the mainframe was a bit noisy on start up so it will be due for replacement at some time. It is a standard appx 4-inch square. 120VAC MUFFIN fan commonly available. Please see the pictures for more details. The HP 8690B is a rugged beautifully constructed piece of equipment. Various other plug-ins are available on the used market(But not included I do not have) covering the 100MHz to 50GHz frequency range in multiple bands. I have packaged the mainframe and plug-in(separately in the same box) very well with foam and bubble wrap in a sturdy box for shipment as shown in a picture attached to the ad. For sale is an excellent venerable'70s PLL technology RF generator made in England by Krohn-Hite. With an insanely low starting bid of $100. This unit covers the range from 10MHz to 520Mhz(NOTE: this is well above the AM Broadcast band! perfect for test and repair of receivers in the higher amateur bands, FM broadcast, VHF and UHF voice communications bands using CW or standard FM and AM. Unit has internal 400Hz and 1KHz mod tones or external mod can be applied, has an accurate mod meter(right side) and it is SINAD check capable. An external Centronics interface connector is also available on the rear panel, but I have never used this. Unit comes with power cord only and no other cables, accessories, attachments or documents. The smiling dapper fellow in photo 12 is also not included. I do not have an operator's or service manual ... morefor this unit, but its operating controls are the same familiar industry-standard expected on units of its vintage and intuitive to any radio tech or enthusiast. The unit is clean and in great condition both internally and externally. All controls and switches are clean and function smoothly without exception. Cabinet has some minor scuffs but no dents and the only exterior flaw is a missing right-side front corner plastic trim piece next to the mod meter(see photo 7 close-up) Front panel is perfectly clean but has three light rectangular patches where inventory stickers used to be applied. I have never had the unit calibrated and do not know its last cal date with the original owner. But outputs and mod tones are very clean and accurate when measured on my own calibrated equipment. Unit spent most of its service life at a major Canadian government research facility before I acquired it. And it has served me well. And that screen flashes on for maybe 5 seconds and then goes off for a couple, repeating that cycle endlessly. It is NOT responsive to the controls. There is a floppy disk in the drive. Just a disk, not a Stanford Research disk. So if it is supposed to boot up from the disk maybe it’s just the disk. But I don’t hear the drive ever make the familiar boot up noise. So if I(as a totally unqualified observer) had to speculate I would say it is more of an issue than just needing a new boot disk. Maybe just a new drive? So anyway. That didn't matter to me so I never tore into it to fix them: 1. The RF output does not go to zero on the meter in any range. 2. The LED digit in the counter lowest place does not work correctly. 3. Spe cifically tha t the 8640 was set on modulation. But the scope only show ... mores the carrier signal. The modulation works. I have added two new photos showing: 1. 1 M hz carrier signal. With 1 K hz FM modulation 2. 1 Mhz carrier signal. With 1 Khz AM mo dulation. In ternal pulse modulation works too. If requ ested I can upload a photo.
