Wavetek Model 3000 Signal Generator. For Parts. Servicable? THE GOOD: The unit powers up. None of the LEDs on the 4 modules that have them are lighted. The front panel attenuator works as far as I can tell. The front LEDs work. see the pictures) The case sides. Top and bottom are in pretty good shape given normal usage. The inside is very clean. THE NOT SO GOOD: The frequency of the output is not what is shown on the selector switches but it is stable. There is a note on the M172 module stating that it has a problem. The front panel attenuator dial plate is cracked in 2 places. That is all the testing/checking I have done to it. This sig gen has been sitting in my storage room for a long time. ITEM IS SOLD AS IS. The third and fourth pictures show AM and FM modulation at 100 MHz. The last picture shows the output at 500 MHz with no modulation. The output is set to-20 dBm on the internal meter. The analyser reading is pretty close to that, 20.58 dBm. The case is marked but the front panel is pretty good. The display is fine and all the switches and the tuning wheel work correctly. Marconi 2018A Synthesized Signal Generator. 80 KHz to 520 MHz. Came from the estate of an engineer. Appears to be working. I do not have the test equipment or expertise to test all the possible modes of this signal generator. I did read the manual and connected it to an oscilloscope. Set it for 80KHz, 1MHz, 10MHz, 100MHz, and 200MHz output frequencies. All displayed fine. Could not test at higher frequency because the maximum response of the ocilloscope is 100 MHz. I could change the output amplitude using the keypad. Then only problem noticed was the power switch. It rotates when turning on or off. It does not effect the operation. You just have to hold the switch to prevent it from rotating when turning on or off. I removed the cover and the switch looks like a standard toggle switch mounted to the front panel. Great working signal generator! Used on my bench for last 8 years. Recently tested. Attenuator good on all settings. Output within specs on all bands. Output ranges 10dB steps and a 13 dB vernier provide power settings from +10 dBm to-130 dBm(0.7 volts to 0.07 microvolts) into 50 ohms. There is an auxiliary RF output on the rear suitable for connecting an external digital frequency counter. Cosmetically nice. A handy. Compact RF signal generator. Only known issue is that the long lever part of the range switch knob has broken off. The range can still be switched. But a tighter grip on the knob is obviously required.
