T his"Correcting Selectric II" was IBM's improvement on it's original Selectric. Making it the most advanced, and most desired electric typewriter available. Recently the experience of actually"typing" has seen a renaissance due to the personal connection one experiences with the machine. There is nothing that can match the feel of an IBM Selectric typewriter. No more reprinting lists. Or printing envelopes 5 times because you just can't get it right with your PC. If you make a mistake. You can still make an easy correction by simply hitting the correction key! You can change Font type, or the size from 10 to 12, by switching out the element ball. The Courier 72- 10 pitch ball is included. This Selectric II is in beautiful condition. Only showing a bit of the 30+ years it has seen. A close inspection reveals no signs of abuse like scuffs or scratches, but there are some slight wear spots from use, mostly right on the edges. More importantly, it operates flawlessly with all leavers operating correctly and all keys striking the correct letters on the test page shown. The third row shows the correcting feature also working. Mechanically I cannot see any issues whatsoever! I checked the operation of every feature mentioned in the manual. Up for auction is a used Selectric II that is in good physical condition. There are a couple scratches and scuff marks on the casing. But it is otherwise undamaged. For more information on the cosmetic condition please refer to the pictures below. We plugged this typewriter in and flipped the switch. We tried to type something and noticed their was no ribbon installed. We than tried to install a new one. But couldn't get it to sit right. It might just be installed wrong. This is a great old machine! It's not often you see a typewriter that is bright red. I don't think I know how to use this correctly. I was able to type the message you can see in the third picture. But now I can't get it to type anything else and I don't know why. Maybe it needs oil, maybe it's a user error because I don't know what I'm doing… it comes with one box of extra ink and three boxes of extra correcting tape a.k.a. lift off tape. A really great find.

IBM Correcting Selectric II 2 Typewriter Working 30+ Yrs Maintenance Records EUC
This IBM Correcting Selectric 2 Typewriter is in excellent working condition. The machine has been tested and is running quick and quiet. This Selectric comes with a 12 pitch striker and a partially used ribbon cartridge. Body is in more than fair condition with minimal wear around the edges and corners. Overall this is a clean and fully functional piece of American craftsmanship and is solid as a rock. In 1973 the Correcting Selectric II was announced. It added an internal correction feature to the Selectric II. Intended to eliminate the need for typists to use cover-up tape, white-out" correction fluid, or typewriter erasers. The carriage on this machine held both the main typing ribbon cartridge and two small spools for a correction ribbon. A new ribbon type, the Correctable Film ribbon, was introduced at the same time. This produced ... moretyping quality equal to the carbon film ribbon, but with a pigment designed to be easily removable from paper. There were two types of correction tapes: The transparent and slightly adhesive"Lift-Off" tape(for use with the correctable film ribbon) Or the white"Cover-Up" tape(for cloth, Tech-3, and carbon film ribbons) The correction tape was changed independently from the typing ribbon. The correction key(an extra key at the bottom right of the keyboard) backspaced the carriage by one space and also put the machine in a mode wherein the next character typed would use the correction tape instead of the normal ribbon. And furthermore would not advance the carriage. The typist would press(and release) the correction key and then re-type the erroneous character, either lifting it off of the page or(if using other than the correctable ribbon) covering it with white-out powder, then type the correct character. This is a beautiful selectric ii from the university of Missouri. In good cosmetic shape. The keys are all sticky from the deteriorating foam pads. Foam pads will need to be removed and it will need to be cleaned out. Looks well lubricated but may need to be serviced due to foam deteriorating. The first time I plugged it in and turned it on it powered up and made a lot of noise. I turned it off and when I turned it back on again it does nothing.
