When you depress the nub it goes back a space. And when you release the nub, it immediately springs back to where you were. It will not go back multiple spaces, only one. Otherwise the machine works as it should. It would benefit from being dusted out inside. The paper feed lever/lock works. The paper wind works. The margin set and release buttons work for both sides. Each of the six keys works when depressed. The forward space button works. The paper feed button works. The return slide works. The bell works for the margin at the end of the page. If you are unfamiliar with the machine. Then you will need to look up instructions for how to use it. You cannot feed paper into the machine unless you follow the correct sequence of steps. Braille typewriter, from the Perkins School for the blind. It was manufactured by Howe Memorial Press and designed by David Abraham.comes with the original cover. Originally invented in 1951 the Perkins Brailler is the most widely used Braille writing machine in the world for those who are blind or vision impaired. Works Great! I just checked the Brailler and I set the carriage all the way to the left and began typing a character. It continued all the way across the page and after 35 characters. It"dinged" the bell and then continued to 41 characters on the extreme right side of the page. So my guess would be that it does 39-41 characters per line. the first and last characters may be too ... moreclose to the edge of the page, but then again, maybe not. I hope that this helps. About 1/3 of the time. The carriage moves slowly across the page and so I'm sure that you will want to clean and or lube it up properly for quicker operation. It does move smoothly though, just not very fast. Condition: Used. In good condition. Works Great. It me a sures 13.5 X 5.5. This is an individual Braille maker. This belong to my Great Aunt who lived in Norman OK. She has been passed for at least 30 plus years. My mother gave this to me as a keepsake a very long time ago. She has passed 15 years ago. Offered is a PERKINS BRAILLER MANUAL LARGE CELL TYPEWRITER. Serial#A5355 manufactured and distributed by the Howe Press of Watertown Mass. The Perkins Brailler was invented in 1951 by David Abraham. A teacher at the Perkins School for the Blind. It is the most widely used Brailler in the world today, with over 300,000 sold in over 170 countries. It has withstood the test of time due to its incredible durability, reliability and ease of use. This model is still made and sells new for $795.00. Each key corresponds to one of the six dots of the Braille code. This Brailler is easier to read. Producing large Braille cells with more space between them so that people with tactile problems can more easily read and produce Braille. This model has a recessed handle for ease of carrying.
