When you depress the nub it goes back a space. And when you release the nub, it immediately springs back to where you were. It will not go back multiple spaces, only one. Otherwise the machine works as it should. It would benefit from being dusted out inside. The paper feed lever/lock works. The paper wind works. The margin set and release buttons work for both sides. Each of the six keys works when depressed. The forward space button works. The paper feed button works. The return slide works. The bell works for the margin at the end of the page. If you are unfamiliar with the machine. Then you will need to look up instructions for how to use it. You cannot feed paper into the machine unless you follow the correct sequence of steps. This is the mechanical. Non-electric model. It does not come with instructions, a dust cover, case, or anything else not pictured here. Economy priced due to the issue with the backspace key. We acquired this Brailler from a school that paints their Braillers all different colors so that when students have visitors they receive compliments on their beautiful machines. I've always wondered why a blind student would want or need a painted Brailler. And now I know why. The colorful Braillers in this blind school are the topic of conversation when visiting their school. This Teal-colored sandstone finish brailler is just stunning. The Brailler works fine. It Brailles fine. Back-space key is working and the paper rolls into the machine with no problem. It is in excellent working order. The only issue with the machine is that the right plastic cover for the paper roller knob is missing, but does not affect the function of the machine at all. I just checked the Brailler and I set the carriage all the way to the left and began typing a character. It continued all the way across the page and after 35 characters. It"dinged" the bell and then continued to 41 characters on the extreme right side of the page. So my guess would be that it does 39-41 characters per line. the first and last characters may be too ... moreclose to the edge of the page, but then again, maybe not. I hope that this helps. About 1/3 of the time. The carriage moves slowly across the page and so I'm sure that you will want to clean and or lube it up properly for quicker operation. It does move smoothly though, just not very fast. Condition: Used. In good condition. Works Great. It me a sures 13.5 X 5.5. This is a Perkins Next Generation Brailler. It Brailles fine as you can see from the pictures. A couple of the cheap plastic pieces have broken off of the machine. I have yet to see a next generation Brailler that does not eventually lost these plastic pieces. It does not affect its function. To move the carriage you just gently push down on the knob inside of the carriage return and it will move freely forward or backward. The back-space key works fine. The paper roller works fine. Offered is a PERKINS BRAILLER MANUAL LARGE CELL TYPEWRITER. Serial#A5355 manufactured and distributed by the Howe Press of Watertown Mass. The Perkins Brailler was invented in 1951 by David Abraham. A teacher at the Perkins School for the Blind. It is the most widely used Brailler in the world today, with over 300,000 sold in over 170 countries. It has withstood the test of time due to its incredible durability, reliability and ease of use. This model is still made and sells new for $795.00. Each key corresponds to one of the six dots of the Braille code. This Brailler is easier to read. Producing large Braille cells with more space between them so that people with tactile problems can more easily read and produce Braille. This model has a recessed handle for ease of carrying. Everything working and overall condition- very good, the crinkle paintwork has very minor signs of wear to commensurate with age. Dust cover is in good condition some minor signs of wear. The machine still has one of two original sticker instructions which usually rub off over many years. see photos. The keys have numbered stickers which can easily be removed if desired. Impressive machine considering its age but also very easy to use as these were introduced into schools. Perkins Brailler Braille Printer Typewriter Machine - Electric Embosser - Works
Perkins Brailler I have a Perkins Brailler that I am selling. This brailler appears to be functioning correctly. It has an electric embossing head. This makes the pressure required very light to type; it also makes the braille type more uniform. The once exception is the paper advance button sticks down. You can just pull it back up and it functions as it should besides that. All the other keys seem to work as they should without problem. There is some scotch tape on the keys that someone wrote numbers on for some reason. I left the tape on for now so the keys are not sticky. Please see the video to see condition. USED PERKINS BRAILLER HAMMERED METAL FINISH BLIND BRAILLE TYPEWRITER PARTS AS IS Up for sale in this auction is a used Perkins Brailler. This is being sold as is no returns for parts or repair. My understanding is this has been in storage for a while. It shows signs of wear consisting of light scuffs and scratches on the finish. Inside there is a build up of dust. And some hair from use over the years. Initially when I started to test this the keys would get stuck, and didn't want to come back up. As I started to play with it they seemed to loosen up and respond as I would expect them to. This probably should be serviced before being put to use. I believe it might need a proper cleaning, and oiling to get it back to its full working capacity. This is for the brailler only. The last picture shows my testing I did with the little bit of ... morepaper that was still left in the unit. I will not be responsible for compatibility or setup issues. Up for auction is this vintage Perkins Bailler designed by David Abraham. It is manufactured and distributed by Howe Memorial Press Perkins School for the blind. Watertown. Mass.U.S.A. It has a model number on the bottom H3643. This belonged to a very sweet lady who was both deaf and blind. She used this machine and to my knowledge it still works. There is a worn spot on the top. It would benefit from being dusted out inside. The paper feed lever/lock works. The paper wind works. The margin set and release buttons work for both sides. Each of the six keys works when depressed. The forward space button works. The paper feed button works. The return slide works. The bell works for the margin at the end of the page.
