Dual pitch(either 10 or 12 spaces per inch) and line-and-a-half vertical spacing. Like its predecessor. The Selectric II was available in standard and wide-carriage sizes and in various colors, including red and blue as well as traditional neutral colors. The Selectric II used the same typeballs, which were available in many fonts, including symbols for science and mathematics, script, Old English, and more than a dozen ordinary alphabets. The typeballs came in two styles: One had a flip-up black plastic lever that could break off, and the other had a metal spring clip with two wire wings that squeezed together and did not break. Over the years, there were several different cartridge styles for the ribbons, even in the same model Selectric, and they were not interchangeable. In 1973 the Correcting Selectric II was announced. BLACK RIBBON, POWER CORD CORRECTION TAPE Typewriter Overview Tested and 100% Operational Used Black Ribbon Model Overview The Selectric II was introduced in the late 1970s featuring self correcting. Dual pitch(either 10 or 12 spaces per inch) and line-and-a-half vertical spacing. Like its predecessor. The Selectric II was available in standard and wide-carriage sizes and in various colors, including red and blue as well as traditional neutral colors. The Selectric II used the same typeballs, which were available in many fonts, including symbols for science and mathematics, script, Old English, and more than a dozen ordinary alphabets. The typeballs came in two styles: One had a flip-up black plastic lever that could break off, and the other had a metal spring clip with two wire wings that squeezed together and did not break. Over the years, there were several different cartridge styles for the ribbons, even in the same model Selectric, and they were not interchangeable. In 1973 the Correcting Selectric II was announced. It added an internal correction feature to the Selectric II. Intended to eliminate the need for typists to use cover-up tape, white-out" correction fluid, or typewriter erasers. The carriage on this machine held both the main typing ribbon cartridge and two small spools for a correction ribbon. A new ribbon type, the Correctable Film ribbon, was introduced at the same time. This produced typing quality equal to the carbon film ribbon, but with a pigment designed to be easily removable from paper. This is an IBM Selectric III correcting typewriter that is in great condition. It has been tested and is fully functional. Some of the number keys stick down a little and return up slowly. Needs a new correcting ribbon. It is pretty quiet when turned on and running. I have not attempted to clean it as to not cause damage. Could probably use oil or standard maintenance but is usable as is. This typewriter has the Letter Gothic type ball. The foam insides have been removed due to deterioration. This is a used item. IBM Selectric III Typewriter Up for auction is used IBM Correcting Selectric III Typewriter. This unit is in good physical condition with no cosmetic damage of any kind. All the buttons and labeling are very clear and legible. Please refer to the pictures provided below for more details on the condition of the item. We plugged the typewriter in and it made a loud ticking like noise. We then put a piece of paper in and started to type. We could type and it would leave the letter on the paper. We did notice that sometimes it wouldn't move after we typed a letter and that it had a hard time spacing. We would have to hold the space bar and it would slowly move. You would not know this(Ball) Typewriter was over 30 years old. I checked all they keys and the Q sticks slightly. The correction tape and typing tape is still in it and works fine. Since the early 60's. The IBM Selectric was the Cadillac of typewriters, becoming the workhorse of American business offices for two decades! In the early 80's. T his"Correcting Selectric III" was the last model IBM produced. Making it the most advanced, and most desired electric typewriter available. Recently the experience of actually"typing" has seen a renaissance due to the personal connection one experiences with the machine. There is nothing that can match the feel of an IBM Selectric typewriter. No more reprinting lists. Or printing envelopes 5 times because you just can't get it right with your PC. If you make a mistake. You can still make an easy correction by simply hitting the correction key! You can change Font type, or the size from 10 to 12, by switching out the element ball. The Letter Goth 96- ... more12 pitch ball is included. This Selectric III is in beautiful condition. Hardly showing a bit of the 30+ years it has seen. It is in excellent condition and operates flawlessly with all leavers operating correctly and all keys striking the correct letters on the test page shown. The third row shows the correcting feature also working. This model also has the state-of-the-art lighted margin/pitch scale which works great. Fully lighting the entire scale and switching from top to bottom scale when the pitch is changed. The only"flaw" I can see is the clear plastic sound-reduction cover does have a 2.5" scratch that can be seen in the pics.But taking into account the hundreds of moving parts that go into making this beauty hum, that's a small sacrifice to make! All the other accessories that are usually broken or just plain missing. Including the pictured"End-of-Page" support, acoustical hood and visor, are included. Included is a new black ribbon cartridge. The correcting tape, and the original power cord, all shown in the pictures. My name is Richard Kelly and I was employed by IBM as a typewriter repairman in the 1950’s and 60’s· I was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1952 and found a job with IBM’s Electric Typewriter Division· I was factory trained at IBM’s Poughkeepsie. NY and Lexington. KY plants to repair IBM Selectric’s as well as the older type bar machines. I go over the Selectrics pretty carefully to check adjustments and lubrication and cleaning. This typewriter has been refurbished by me and I have cleaned and checked everything pretty closely. The first picture of the typewriter is a pretty good rendition of the color. Pastel blue I call it and a pretty shade. I think this would make a good typewriter for an office or home.
