It needs some kind of repair. Something is causing the type guide/ribbon to stay stuck in place. It may be a easy fix. I have no idea how to work on these machines, so selling it AS IS. This is an IBM Selectric III correcting typewriter that is in great condition. It has been tested and is fully functional. Some of the number keys stick down a little and return up slowly. Needs a new correcting ribbon. It is pretty quiet when turned on and running. I have not attempted to clean it as to not cause damage. Could probably use oil or standard maintenance but is usable as is. This typewriter has the Letter Gothic type ball. The foam insides have been removed due to deterioration. This is a used item. This is a great old IBM Correction Selectric III with accessories. Different font balls and extra ribbons. Also, included is the Oak stand with a drawer in the center and two collapsable sides. The typewriter needs a repair or adjustment as it keeps typing one letter. IBM Selectric III Typewriter Up for auction is used IBM Correcting Selectric III Typewriter. This unit is in good physical condition with no cosmetic damage of any kind. All the buttons and labeling are very clear and legible. Please refer to the pictures provided below for more details on the condition of the item. We plugged the typewriter in and it made a loud ticking like noise. We then put a piece of paper in and started to type. We could type and it would leave the letter on the paper. We did notice that sometimes it wouldn't move after we typed a letter and that it had a hard time spacing. We would have to hold the space bar and it would slowly move. This typewriter is a well kept one owner machine belonging to a retired school teacher. She would type up recipes and one article a week for our local newspaper. It has been sitting for a while however I plugged it in and replaced the ribbon and it typed exactly as it should. It seems very solid and appears to function properly. You would not know this(Ball) Typewriter was over 30 years old. I checked all they keys and the Q sticks slightly. The correction tape and typing tape is still in it and works fine. Since the early 60's. The IBM Selectric was the Cadillac of typewriters, becoming the workhorse of American business offices for two decades! In the early 80's. T his"Correcting Selectric III" was the last model IBM produced. Making it the most advanced, and most desired electric typewriter available. Recently the experience of actually"typing" has seen a renaissance due to the personal connection one experiences with the machine. There is nothing that can match the feel of an IBM Selectric typewriter. No more reprinting lists. Or printing envelopes 5 times because you just can't get it right with your PC. If you make a mistake. You can still make an easy correction by simply hitting the correction key! You can change Font type, or the size from 10 to 12, by switching out the element ball. The Letter Goth 96- ... more12 pitch ball is included. This Selectric III is in beautiful condition. Hardly showing a bit of the 30+ years it has seen. It is in excellent condition and operates flawlessly with all leavers operating correctly and all keys striking the correct letters on the test page shown. The third row shows the correcting feature also working. This model also has the state-of-the-art lighted margin/pitch scale which works great. Fully lighting the entire scale and switching from top to bottom scale when the pitch is changed. The only"flaw" I can see is the clear plastic sound-reduction cover does have a 2.5" scratch that can be seen in the pics.But taking into account the hundreds of moving parts that go into making this beauty hum, that's a small sacrifice to make! All the other accessories that are usually broken or just plain missing. Including the pictured"End-of-Page" support, acoustical hood and visor, are included. BEAUTIFUL BLACK IBM SELECTRIC III CORRECTING TYPEWRITER This typewriter is very clean. It was always stored with the dust cover which kept it looking so nice and clean! It was very minimally used so shows only slight. Slight, slight signs of use. The black finish is gorgeous. NOT 100% but it is EXCELLENT. NO scratches or wear. The keys look great. I tested it out and all of the keys seem to work great. The ink ribbon that is in the typewriter doesn't type the darkest.that is probably because of its age. Including the directions, a new B86HY replacement ribbon and a package with 2 new correcting tapes. There is a sticker with a repair company's name/address on the bottom right corner. Mint IBM Correcting Selectric III Typewriter with Cover and Warranty
Relive the days when"typing" meant you had a personal connection with the machine. There is no computer keyboard or mobile device that can match the feel of an IBM Selectric typewriter. Use it for chores that are difficult to perform on a computer printer.labels. Forms, envelopes, etc. or write someone a snail-mail letter personally typed. If you make a mistake, no need to start over, simply hit the correction key, retype the letter in error and continue on. This IBM Correcting Selectric III is unique in that it's never been hammered in an office environment. It came from a ladies home that bought it new for typing college papers and only used since for her personal correspondence. Obviously kept covered and taken good care of. It reflects very low usage as the nylon tab cord is still very white. It's in the 13" width. ... more12 pitch(characters per inch) and comes with the original Page-end Indicator, not usually found intact on Selectric III's. The mechanical and cosmetic appearance is that of a six month old machine or less. It has been cleaned inside and out, sound dampening material replaced, and critical adjustments checked. A high failure(due to age) nylon part has been upgraded with a metal replacement. This part has either broken or is about to break on every Selectric that's not been upgraded. Several critical mechanical sub-assemblies have been disassembled, cleaned, lubed, reassembled, and adjusted. It's been completely lubricated using modern synthetic lubricants that resist drying out and gumming up with age, a new IBM ribbon and lift-off tape installed, every function checked and tested extensively- all performed by an IBM factory trained and experienced technician. Included is an additional new IBM Correctable Film Ribbon, IBM Lift-Off tape, Operating Instructions, original cover(a few small perforations)and an IBM 12 pitch Prestige Elite 96 element.
