It was a long way from an idea to a tool.and the Photo Theodolite was one of the first powerfull tool to resolve terrestrial photogrammetry projects. Data to be used in a GIS database: A little history from the net here: At the heart of the innovations that led to the Canada Geographic Information System was the fundamental idea of using computers to ask questions of maps and to render useful information from them. To do this. Maps had to be in digital form. This led to the idea that many digital maps could be stitched together ... moreto represent the whole of Canada and that the maps could be linked intelligently to digital databases of statistics, such as the Census. Fifty years later, this brief article recalls the people, organizations, and circumstances that gave rise to these original ideas, and how the ideas played out. In 1960. This is a used electronic theodolite which can be used alone or as part of a total station with the addition of an add-on distance meter(distance meter not included in this auction) The optics on this Leica/Wild instrument are perfect. The least count for the horizontal and vertical angle measuring function is 1/10 of an arc second! The outside of the case has some nicks and scratches but the theodolite itself has no blemishes at all. If you bid on this instrument be aware that the tribach(leveling base) is not original equipment and is not adequate for this instrument. Please adjust your bid to take into account for my recommendation that the tribach will need to be replaced. The on-board nicad battery will not hold a charge and needs to be re-celled.
