This transit seems to be in good working condition. according to the inspection records it was last inspected in 1970. I would guess this to be from the 40's or 50's.It has a light signs of wear but appears to have been taken very good care of. the level is also in very good condition.

There is a hook type lock on the front(see pic 10& 11) The box has the Sears Robuck and Co. USA label with the model no 789.46212. The transit has the number 1S 49469. This is in good to very good condition. Glass bubble is intact. As is the glass with crosshairs. Has all brass mounting screws. This will be well packed to arrive in the condition described. Inside is the original instruction manual and the original"how to adjust the bubble" instructions on the inside lid. The instructions are in great condition. Also the plumb bob is intact. The transit is in mint condition and will make a great addition to a builder’s workshop or collection. It appears to be in excellent working condition and the optics are clear with all adjustments working well. This transit has a black crinkled finish. It features an Optical Plummet, a Lateral Adjustment Clamp; a Foot Plate, a Leveling Screw, a Plummet Eyepiece, a sun cap, a Lateral Adjuster, a Yoke Frame and an Instrument Telescope. Included with this transit are: Instructions, a Manual of Instructions and the original Manufacturer’s Inspection Certificate dated 2/9/82. Craftsman Transit& Tripod. Surveyors& Construction Model. It has Tilt and Azimuth. It is great for building and construction or for surveying. The level vile is clear and precise. The focus works just like it should and the image through the glass is fine. I bought this unit new quite a few years ago. It is a one owner tool. It has been well taken care of. The transit has some paint rubs where it rubbed in the case. But no damage that I know of. The tripod has some paint rubs. Scrapes& scratches but is in good usable condition. It has wear that is normal for a tool that has been used. It all works as it should and it has the TILT function which makes it very useful for surveying. Vintage Brass CRAFTSMAN TRANSIT Builders Level & WOOD BOX old
for auction is a vintage Craftsman Builders transit. It does not say Craftsman any where on the tool. The only mark is the word patented. I believe it is a craftsman transit from comparing this transit with others that have previously sold. At one point there was a craftsman sticker on the tool but must of fallen off years ago. The bubble is in good condition. the sight focuses. The lenses are a bit dirty and will need to be cleaned. All components on the transit move and function. There is some evidence of wear from use. but the tool has not been abused. The box is solid and it can still be used, but has seen better days. it is in rough condition. there is rust on the hinges, the handle and the closing clasps. There is some splits in the wood. and some chips and some dry rot. The box can be refurbished, but there will be some labor involved. ... morethe tool will just need to be cleaned and tuned.
