Vintage C.L. Berger & Sons Surveyors Instrument Transit w/Wooden Case -1920's-
I'm selling at no reserve this beautiful old surveying transit that was made in the late 1920's according to the serial number of 15576. It appears to be in all original. Working, well cared for condition. Based on the condition of the case, it was certainly used for many years. Antique David White Company 1950 Universal Level Transit Surveying Instrument
David White Company 1950 Universal Level Transit This surveying tool comes with it's own carrying/storage case. The wooden box is tongue and groove with a latch on the front that holds it closed. The leather strap and buckle go across the top for carrying. The box was painted red. With one side being grey. The bottom has rubber bumpers so it doesn't sit flat on the ground. I shows some wear giving this antique a unique look. It works like it's supposed to, storage/carrying. Dimensions of box: 14"L x 11 1/4"H x 6 3/4"W The suveying tool is in quite good condition. It swivels. The scope moves up and down, and the knobs turn quite smoothly. The bottom is threaded so it can be placed on a tri-pod. The brass name plate reads, David White Company Patented White's Improved No 73414 Surveying Instruments& Engineers ... moreField Supplies Milwaukee. Vtg Berger Transit level in original box surveying instrument 190 A
Here we have an older Berger transit level or builders level. I would estimate the manufacture date to be mid fifties or early sixties. You are bidding on the instrument and original wooden case only. The case or box is in great shape. Good wood and hinges work freely. The leather strap is broken, but present. It also has the original plumb bob for centering over control point. The instrument itself is in apparent good working condition also. I did not set it up and turn a level loop to check it out. But the bubble looks good, the cross hairs are present and clear. The optics look clear and the focal adjustment works well. This instrument would be great for either a collector or for actual home or utility construction. I think it would make a great conversation piece in the office of an engineer or construction guy.

And hinges work freely. The strap is detached because leather attached to box/where buckle is attached is broken, but present. This transit would be in good working condition but is missing a small part on top of instrument.previous owner told me the name but I have forgotten. Sorry! I have no idea on its use. Item Photos, DETAILS Vintage DAVID WHITE TRANSIT + Case MODEL 8114 Realist Construction Survey Instrument This is a vintage David White transit surveying instrument by Realist. Model number 8114. Come with its red carrying case that snaps onto the base of it. The instrument is in good vintage condition and the carrying case is solid. The handle is holding fast. Serial number is 106228. This tool was obviously used. Like I said it is in good vintage condition but there are some indicators of its age. The case especially is worn with a lot of the paint scraped off and some oxidation on the metal fixtures. The tool itself has some surface wear and slight oxidation here and there. The glass has some discoloration but still looks alright. I am not an expert on this kind of tool, however I don't see any substantial damage to it. I picked this up at a house sale because it looked interesting. I know absolutely nothing about surveying instruments so if I make an error or fail to describe or mention something please email and I'll do my best correct it. This is a 19th century theodolite in as found condition. I believe the name on the dial is F. Eckel New York. There are two broken pieces of glass. One covers a scale and the other is the leveling bubble. Check out the photos to see. The compass dial measures 4 3/4 inches and has scratches in the center of the glass. The tube length is 10 1/2 inches. The brass dial is 4 1/2 inches. The height is about 15 1/2 inches. It weighs in at 20 pounds. I don't know if there any missing parts. Email for additional photos. The case is also a David White the sticker on it reads for a model 8300. So its not the organelle case for this transit this probably had a wood case but I am not sure. Transit Surveying Instrument Gurley 400W
Up for auction is a very nice old gurley transit I bought a while back thinking I was going to put it to use however I will not be doing so and it may as well be put back in service somewhere. It is clean and has been well taken care of. The case shows usual evidence of having been used and carried in a work truck(minor scuffs and stains) and there is no carrying strap. But a piece of rope or an old weed eater strap would suffice. I have never had an excuse to use this instrument but did set it up in my yard and toyed with it and I believe it will shoot quite straight. This is an old instrument and takes the old round tripod mount which is no longer available. I know this because it took me a couple of weeks to find a tripod. We have for sale a Vintage K&E Keuffel& Esser Co. Paragon Transit Surveying Instrument USA 520204. This was an estate find. You get everything you see in the photos. I purchased this transit at an auction. Then used it for a job I had. Every function of the transit works great. Nothing is cracked or broken. All the bubbles are present and work fine. It is a little dusty and could use a cleaning. Once cleaned up this will make a great collectors piece. It comes in its original case but as you can see its not real impressive looking. It does its job but there is some paint sprayed on it and is signed by the previous owner. It is solid though and not falling apart. This does not come with the transit legs, just the transit itself. No Missing parts. Case is a little rough with scratches. Scuffs, an marks. It looks as if it was dropped at some point. There is a scuff on the lens cover and there is a slight damage to the lens(pictured) I did not see damage when looking throw. One of the legs as come out. I BOUGHT THIS DAVID WHITE LEVEL TRANSIT SURVEY INSTRUMENT FROM AN ONLINE AUCTION FROM WHICH I HAVE PURCHASED MANY ITEMS AND LISTED THEM ON THIS SITE AND OTHER SIMILAR SITES AND SOLD THEM WITH GREAT SUCCESS. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS ITEM EXCEPT FROM WHAT I READ BUT THIS ITEM IS IN A CLAMPED DOWN HARD COVER FOR PROTECTION AND THE SURVEY TOOL SEEMS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I DID NOT TRY TO CHANGE ALL OF THE KNOBS BUT I DID MOVE THEM AND THEY SEEMED TO MOVE FREELY BUT I DON'T KNOW ANY OF THEIR FUNCTIONS SO EMAILS WILL BE WELCOME. THIS TOOL WAS IN SUCH GOOD OUTER SHAPE I DID NOT HAVE TO CLEAN IT WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS USED WITH GREAT CARE CLEANED AND STORED IN THE HARD CASE IN ORDER TO KEEP IT IN GREAT WORKING ORDER.
