Antique David White Company 1950 Universal Level Transit Surveying Instrument
David White Company 1950 Universal Level Transit This surveying tool comes with it's own carrying/storage case. The wooden box is tongue and groove with a latch on the front that holds it closed. The leather strap and buckle go across the top for carrying. The box was painted red. With one side being grey. The bottom has rubber bumpers so it doesn't sit flat on the ground. I shows some wear giving this antique a unique look. It works like it's supposed to, storage/carrying. Dimensions of box: 14"L x 11 1/4"H x 6 3/4"W The suveying tool is in quite good condition. It swivels. The scope moves up and down, and the knobs turn quite smoothly. The bottom is threaded so it can be placed on a tri-pod. The brass name plate reads, David White Company Patented White's Improved No 73414 Surveying Instruments& Engineers ... moreField Supplies Milwaukee. Item Photos, DETAILS Vintage DAVID WHITE TRANSIT + Case MODEL 8114 Realist Construction Survey Instrument This is a vintage David White transit surveying instrument by Realist. Model number 8114. Come with its red carrying case that snaps onto the base of it. The instrument is in good vintage condition and the carrying case is solid. The handle is holding fast. Serial number is 106228. This tool was obviously used. Like I said it is in good vintage condition but there are some indicators of its age. The case especially is worn with a lot of the paint scraped off and some oxidation on the metal fixtures. The tool itself has some surface wear and slight oxidation here and there. The glass has some discoloration but still looks alright. I am not an expert on this kind of tool, however I don't see any substantial damage to it. No Missing parts. Case is a little rough with scratches. Scuffs, an marks. It looks as if it was dropped at some point. There is a scuff on the lens cover and there is a slight damage to the lens(pictured) I did not see damage when looking throw. One of the legs as come out. I can not get it back in and it looks as if the owner may have tried also. As the is tool marks on the nut of the leg. pictured) The silver piece seems to work to level the transit. I BOUGHT THIS DAVID WHITE LEVEL TRANSIT SURVEY INSTRUMENT FROM AN ONLINE AUCTION FROM WHICH I HAVE PURCHASED MANY ITEMS AND LISTED THEM ON THIS SITE AND OTHER SIMILAR SITES AND SOLD THEM WITH GREAT SUCCESS. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS ITEM EXCEPT FROM WHAT I READ BUT THIS ITEM IS IN A CLAMPED DOWN HARD COVER FOR PROTECTION AND THE SURVEY TOOL SEEMS TO BE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. I DID NOT TRY TO CHANGE ALL OF THE KNOBS BUT I DID MOVE THEM AND THEY SEEMED TO MOVE FREELY BUT I DON'T KNOW ANY OF THEIR FUNCTIONS SO EMAILS WILL BE WELCOME. Model number on the bottom is"8300-221" Hard plastic lid is surface-worn but the plastic has no chips or cracks. The handle is cracked in half but the two links of hardware have been joined by a piece of wire- don't knock it. It works. Instrument shows surface wear and needs some cleaning.
