Heathkit RF-1 RF Generator, Tested on Video, w/Leads and Manual
HEATHKIT RF-1 RF Generator. It is in very good physical and(with 1 exception) functional condition. The cabinet looks nearly new. With a fresh paint job. The RF-1 appeared about 1960 and was produced until about 1963 when it was replaced by the IG102. The primary difference were changes in the cabinet and look(esthetics) of the unit. The circuits are identical. This unit can be set to any desired frequency from about 100Khz to 110 Mhz via a 6 position range switch and and adjustable vernier dial and pointer. RF frequencies with adjustable attenuation via a 3 position coarse and a continuously variable fine attenuation control. This unit is useful anywhere an unmodulated RF signal between 100Khz and 110 Mhz is needed like: testing filter circuits. Adjusting tuners, receivers. shortwave radios, transceivers and any other kinds of frequency ... moresensitive circuit devices. A needed tool for most any workbench! This unit has had the new BNC connectors installed in place of the original style microphone"button" connector. This gives you easy latitude to obtain and use any number of coaxial test leads and connectors commonly used on today's benches(I felt this was important to do) I provide a brand new coaxial BNC terminated set of test leads with gator clip ends to start you off. The switches have been cleaned. The controls have been cleaned and lubricated. And the unit was adjusted for output over all ranges. I checked the electrolytic capacitors for condition and filtration. The signal is clean and quite accurate throughout the ranges and the top most range(110mhz) is quite strong in signal(often this is not so) I like my cabinets to look good and this one was missing some paint. I have provided lots of pictures so that you can get a good feel for it's condition. Cosmetically. The case shows some yellowing and discoloration where tags were removed and it has been engraved. Please examine the pictures for this condition. The handle works properly. To verify that this is in good working condition. I first tested the batteries with our battery cycler and then ran some tests and compared them with one of our newer Fluke meters with the following results. The internal ni-cad batteries tested at a little over 67% life left and should be good for a few hours away from AC power. Current test. A 100 ma. load measured 100.0 ma. vs 100.1 on 8010M. ... moreA 1.5 Amp load measured 1.5A vs 1.513A on the 8010M. DC voltage test. A 5.000 VDC Reference Voltage measured 5.00 on both meters. A 10.000 VDC Reference Voltage measured 10.00 on both meters. Resistance test. On the 8010M. A Precision Fluke 509 ohm.1% resistor measured 509 ohms and a 125K.1% resistor measured 125k. same on both meters) AC voltage test. Bench power measured 118.7 vac vs 118.1 vac on the 8010M. Male banana to uninsulated alligator clip. I performed the following tests: 10k Ohm(1% resistor = measured 10.015 k Ohms. Wall outlet voltage(should be around 120VAC) = measured 118.45 VAC. 20W soldering iron(should be about 168 mA AC) = measured 169.67 mA AC. 1.9 V DC from DC supply = measured 1.910 V DC. 1.91 VDC across a 10k Ohm resistor = measured 0.191mA DC. From the tests above I conclude this unit works fine. I did not test every function in every range because that would have taken too long.
