VINTAGE 1948 WESTON MODEL 779 TYPE 1A VOM/AMP METER SERIAL# 6361 - STILL WORKS!
This is a very nice vintage July 31. 1948“WESTON MODEL 779 ANALYZER” type 1A volt-ohm-ampere meter that still works(at least to the ability of my testing skills) Tested on low resistance settings(continuity touching probes to each other) and they all work. I don’t have a resistance box. So I can’t test if R readings are calibrated or accurate. OHM-zero-adjust knob works very nicely(see photo with needle at full sweep) Tested on 2.5VDC and 10VDC voltage scales– 1.5VDC batteries give readings that are scaled properly if you assume full sweep is 2.5VDC. But I don’t understand why the lowest voltage scale on the meter face is labeled 5VDC? So. Although I’m fairly confident it’s functioning properly, I can’t guarantee readings are calibrated or accurate. Meter is easy to read and needle sweep is very smooth– nice instrument! Measured the 15V internal ... morebattery(Eveready 411) with a second voltmeter– it barely deflected. I presume this battery is used for the high resistance settings? I have no way to test them. Anyway. Photo is not clear. But the yellow ink-stamp date reads“ Jul 31 1948” Maybe this was the one of the first ~6500 they made? serial number 6361) Shows signs of use and wear as expected for its age. Components look to be in very good shape(see photos) Case is very sturdy and all intact– all bottom feet present· No missing screws– and all-original hardware· Lid is removable as shown in photos· Inside the lid. It still has the elastic strap for the wires and 90° jacks and the 2 wood stowage slots for the long test leads. Both original leads are present with original jacks, probes, and plastic on both ends(although the wires are extra crispy J) This instrument was used regularly. VINTAGE WOOD ENCLOSED VOLT/OHM METER WITH A WESTON METER MODEL 506 TYPE S-38 J1 click picture to enlarge This auction is for a vintage Volt/Ohm Meter completely encased in wood except for the bottom which looks like it could be made of phenolic or some other similar type material and the solid brass fascia enclosing the meter face. There is an ON/OFF switch on the top as well as terminals for the leads. There is a vertical crack in the glass approximately in the center of the scale plus a smaller crack from approximately from the 6 o'clock position to the 4 o'clock position. The meter wood enclosure measures approximately 6-1/4" tall X 3-3/8" wide(without probe holders) 4-3/4" wide(with probe holders) X 1-3/4" thick. The two leads are about 36" long each. The little white specks that you see in the pictures ... moreare white paint. It looks like the meter was near a place a paint roller had been used. They should come off fairly easily. That's about all I know about this item, including whether it works or not. Up for your consideration is for a vintage Weston AC& DC Watt Meter. Model 310, and(0-500 watts- 100 volt range) from the 1940's. Serial number is 14240. It was last calibration was in 1989 I secured it from the Earl Naval Weapons Base in New Jersey over twenty-five years ago. I haven’t tested it nor used it since I had it. It is being sold as-is. It doesn’t have the door cover. The leather handle is intact and nothing is loose inside. It is heavy and I offer free shipping so the starting bid will have to compensate for this added costs. Weston electrical equipment is the manufacturer. Model 697. Has a patent info on face so it must be early. Looks like a serial number on the face of 1520. I know nothing about these so I can not test it. Maybe you can tell by the pictures of the guts. Others on ebay have listed this as a military item. So I will go along with that. Measures about 5 1/2 tall by 4 wide. Nice vintage piece.

Weston model 785 STEAMPUNK industrial electrical test meter and manual repro.
Here you see for sale an old but fairly-clean Weston model 785 electrical test meter. The generic term for this sort of instrument back in the day was"VOM" As in"Volt-Ohm Meter" I have NOT made any attempt to hook it up or to perform ANY tests at all. That's YOUR responsibility. Hence the magic Ebay phrase"FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY! The finish on the wood case is rough. But still there. I see NO evidence of leaked-battery damage to the battery holders. Hinges, handle and latch are intact as seen in the pictures. The contacts on the rotary switches have not been cleaned. But appear surprisingly bright and free of the usual fuzzy black silver oxides. This leads me to suspect that it was stored in the proverbial"cool dry place" The basic rating for a VOM is expressed in"Ohms per Volt" This meter ... moreis rated at 20.000 ohms per Volt DC and 1000 ohms per Volt AC. This also means that the lowest FULL-SCALE DC-Volts range is 100 millivolts. Likewise, the most-sensitive DC-current range is 50 microamps full scale. It has NO protection circuits beyond the user's good judgement. These high-sensitivity inputs have separate binding posts not shown in a close-up picture. I will include the two probes shown. This sale also includes a modern-day reproduction of the original manual. One visible defect is a cracked corner on the front panel that has been repaired with some kind of brown glue. What you see is what you get. The modern-day functional equivalent to this instrument will literally fit in the palm of your hand. This thing is what the young folks call a totally STEAMPUNK specimen. I have serious misgivings about the brittle black bakelite panel. So it will be packed in an oversized carton with plenty of fat bubblewrap to protect it from 21st-century"drop-kick" package-sorting technology.
