Nice VTVM(Vacuum Tube Voltmeter) It is in good shape with some wear and could use a little cleaning. Had been used in an electronics shop on a regular basis until the shop closed recently. We have used it for different voltage checks a few times and it does seem to be working with good readings. But since it is a 40+ year old piece of test gear that has not been refurbished or calibrated for many years it may need calibration/minor repairs before it can be used accurately. It is definitely NOT DOA anyway. Has the original RCA probe with it with ground clip. ALSO comes with a WG-301A CRYSTAL DIODE PROBE(tip of probe looks like it is missing? This one is fairly clean inside and out with minimal scratches and no corrosion due to a leaking battery. Shows some wear from use. These meters. RCA WV-98C Senior VoltOhmyst VTVM with WG-299E AC/DC Probe This item is a vacuum-tube voltmeter(VTVM) with probe in very good condition. A classic workhorse from the tube days. This meter was found on benches in every television and radio repair shop. Rugged, dependable, precise and very easy to use, this meter set the standard for accurately measuring AC and DC voltages and resistance. The voltmeter is enclosed in a heavy aluminum case with a strong internal chassis and has a large. Easy to read mirrored meter. The mirrored scale allows the operator to obtain an exact reading, avoiding the parallax-induced error found in less expensive meters caused by reading the needle at an angle. High measurement input impedance is provided by a 12AU7 dual triode. Unlike modern solid-state multimeters. This VTVM will tolerate much higher voltage overloads ... morewithout damage. It is quite useful in performing measurements on high voltage tube amplifiers such as are found in high-end stereo systems, and will not‘blow out’ like modern digital meters or less expensive analog multimeters. Sure. It has an analog readout. But hey– the world is analog! Seriously. For most voltage measurements the inherent ruggedness provided by this VTVM far outweighs being able to read that voltage to 3 decimal places. This meter is in very good condition with no evidence of oxidation or corrosion. The interior of the meter is very clean. There are no cracks or scratches on the meter face, and unlike many other similar meters for sale on eBay this meter has not been damaged by a leaking battery. Many of the other RCA(and other model) meters were stored for years with a battery inside and have serious internal damage caused when the battery split open and leaked caustic electrolyte onto the switches and circuit boards. Includes a COPY of the Manual which contains a schematic and parts list. Also included is a original RCA probe. I did power on the unit and was able to adjust the meter needle with the Zero Adj Knob. No other testing was done. The unit requires a 1.5 volt"D" cell to be soldered in for OHMS measurement and is not included. The inside of the unit is clean with no battery leaks. In working condition. Could use calibration and possibly some new capacitors but it isn't too far off. In one of the photos. I'm apply 10 VDC and it is reading a little under 11 VDC. Great for working on old vacuum tube equipment. Did not attempt to adjust or replace any components. Appears 100% stock. Include are standard banana jack probes. Also included is the universal WG-99E probe that allows both AC and DC measurements with the built in switch to bypass the inline resistor. Nice unit.
