I first tested the batteries with our battery cycler and then ran some tests and compared them with one of our newer Fluke meters with the following results. The internal ni-cad batteries tested at a little over 67% life left and should be good for a few hours away from AC power. Current test. A 100 ma. load measured 100.0 ma. vs 100.1 on 8010M. A 1.5 Amp load measured 1.5A vs 1.513A on the 8010M. DC voltage test. A 5.000 VDC Reference Voltage measured 5.00 on both meters. A 10.000 VDC Reference Voltage measured 10.00 on both meters. It measures the usual voltages. Currents and resistance but it also measures logic levels, frequency, capacitance and has a built in bipolar transistor checker. The auto power off feature saves battery life for the times you walk away from your bench and forget to turn it off. I have powered the unit on and tested it on a variety of ranges and measurements and everything seems to work fine. I can not guarantee its accuracy on every setting or ability to be calibrated to original factory specs but for the cost of calibration you could probably buy a brand new meter. Mastech M9803R Bench Digital Multimeter w/ LCD Display and RS-232 Date Hold Port This bench top meter does quite a bit. For the price.and certainly more than was on the market 20 years ago@ 10 times the price! I bought this just about 5 years ago when I first heard about them. The last thing I needed was another multimeter.but I must say I was REALLY surprised at the features and functions of this unit. Especially at this price point! I used it in my basement workshop for a while, then took it out to the garage to work on something at the time.and that's where it's been until this auction. Tested prior to listing in all ranges and everything works great. Unfortunately. I misplaced the RS-232 cable and software that originally came with it, as well as the shoulder strap.
