This is the Hewlett Packard model HP 970A Digital Probe Multimeter. Introduced 40 years ago. It was a unique, self-contained instrument for one-handed use. This auto-ranging multimeter reads AC volts, DC volts, and ohms. Unfortunately, the original 10-volt nicad battery cartridge died during the 1980s and no replacements could be found. Rather than discard a useable multimeter, the owner used alligator clips to connect a 9-volt battery, and used the meter that way. Thus it works, but is sold as-is. Perhaps you can find a replacement or rebuilt battery cartridge, remove the clips, and use the meter as originally designed. This auction includes the multimeter.
