The government changed the CAA to the FAA if I remember correct some time in the late 40's or early 50's. Another time check- The test lead scokets are the old pin plug style. I was in the Air Force during the early 50's and I remember the change. I opened the unit up and replaced the D cell battery. Amazingly. It seems to work. It is a VTVM with a RF probe, and a capacity meter of some sort. It uses the VTVM for the capacity leakage test. RF probe there but no test leads. I don't know how accuracte it is. Its around 65 year old so its sold as is. It's heavy in a metal case. About 25 lbs for shipping. Probably should be used in a collection of Weston equipment. Since no testing has been done I am selling AS IS. The item is in acceptable condition. There is rusting on the side. Back, and top metal. The front metal has rust spots and scratching. The screws are rusty as well. The paint is chipping on the metal. The cord is in good condition. The item came from an old house full of electronics so it smells old and smells like dust. I have not opened the inside of the item so there is a chance that it may be dusty inside. There are four bakelite knobs. A bakelite handle, and a bakelite faceplate. This is a Nice Vintage Electronic US NAVY PSM-4D Multimeter used in the Navy Department Bureau of Ships to test Ship electronics. It has a Water tight Bakelite Case and Directions for use on the inside cover. This meter had the batteries left inside and therefore they leaked and corroded the contact points. They have since been removed and would need to be replaced. I assume the meter would function if done so. However. It is UN- tested and being sold AS IS for parts or repair. No leads are included. This is a Nice Vintage Electronic USM-311 US Army Multimeter used in the Army Department Bureau to test Field electronics. It has Directions for use on the inside cover. I dont have the correct batteries so It is UN- tested and being sold AS IS. There are some nics and the knobs have the grips missing. The Bakelite case is solid and I cant seem to find any cracks. The ohms adjustment control must be set(with the probes apart) to infinity, instead of the usual adjustment to zero with the probes shorted. In addition to that, the red terminal is positive when measuring ohms, whereas on a normal analog meter it would be negative on ohms ranges. In most DC ... moreranges, the meter can be set to centre-zero instead of having zero on the left. In this mode, the knob on the right is used to adjust the pointer to an accurate zero in the middle of the scale. The scale is marked 1-100 in black and 50-0-50 in red, for use in centre-zero mode. I offer here a Vintage Electronic Mfg. Co. of Harrisburg Pa. Volt Meter& Ohm Meter Metal Case. All controls work on this vintage unit. It has some light oxidation on the case. But the case is very solid. It has a good original cord and plug. The unit does power up& the pilot light does go on but, I have no instructions or cables to test the unit. I can tell you this: all three tubes inside test very good and all parts look clean with no leakage. The 2 D-cells are old and need replacing. they have some rust.Please review my photos as they are part of my description. This piece measures 10" tall x 10" wide and 7" deep and weighs about 12 pounds without packing. Where possible we will ship items together to save buyer shipping costs.
