As you can read this is a helium/neon laser rated up to.95mw at 532.8nm Visible Red light. The beam exits at 1/16" in diameter and after only 20ft it is still only 1/4" this means with few focalizing lenses you can keep the beam pretty uniform. It's rated at.98 mw but I don't know how accurate that is because there are many contributing factors like how much usage the gas density and ect. This unit is strong still. It was made in 1982 and still emits a strong beam. For the lenses. There are a few that need replacing but not many, I am including everything I got with this laser in 1 package. From what I understand the lenses that are for the laser are rated for it's wavelength although there are a couple that are not made for lasers but only a couple. most of the lenses are in good to excellent condition. If it is of interest to you, this laser was found at the estate sale of a scientist(I don't have his name) whom I was told held more patents in holography than anyone else in the USA. You will notice that one of the plastic feet on the laser housing is mis-matched, and one of the feet on the exciter is missing, both being minor flaws. The SP-405 is a wide range laser power meter in two ways: It has full scale settings for laser power from 1 mW to 100 WATTs(selectable in a 1, 3, 10, sequence) and its wavelength response is fairly flat from mid-UV(250 nm) to mid-IR(12 um) with no adjustment. It has both digital and analog displays always active, with a faster response for the meter to be able to track changes as when peaking a laser cavity. While designed for CW lasers, it can also be used with quasi-CW lasers and low energy repetitive Q-switched lasers. The pyroelectric sensor has a diameter of 1 cm with a maximum power density rating of 4,000 W/cm2. That means a 2 mm diameter 100 W beam won't ... moremelt it, supposedly! A pyroelectrically-active material produces a voltage as a result of changes in temperature. So, it can't normally be used to measure the output power of CW lasers. However, the SP-405 has an internal mechanical chopper- a metal disk with a single narrow slot driven by a motor. For that 100 W beam, perhaps 1 percent or less of it will reach the sensor- the rest is mostly reflected to heat the finned enclosure. The pyroelectric sensor has a faster response than most thermal sensors capable of handling a similar maximum power.
