This item is a very small helium neon laser tube. It still works fine and is one of the smallest working hene tubes I've ever seen. This tube needs about 1.000V at 3.5 to 4mA to operate. It would make a nice science fair project if put into a clear plastic case so the tube can be seen running. The first picture is without flash on, the last one is with the flash on. This is a light duty diode array for trigger pulse isolation. The diodes are rated to withstand peak currents of up to 70A for a 1mS duration or thereabouts. Used with a small dye cell q-switched laser head made by Coherent. If you bought one of the laser photonics medical Yag laser heads i sold a while back this part will make it easy to trigger the lamp in it with a cheap trigger coil. Beryllium Oxide Thermo Laser Physics Nitrogen Gas Plasma Tube High Energy
This is a plasma tube from a small transverse discharge nitrogen laser. The tube appears to be almost used. But has a small chip in the OC end. It could be refilled with other gases to experiment with different types of plasma when zapped by extreme high current pulses of electricity. The electrodes inside are made of platinum and bronze so you can put almost anything in it without worry of fouling the electrodes. At the sort of energy density typically used, almost anything you fill it with will create a laser beam. One neat use of it would be to replace the optics with CO2 mirrors and fill with a near atmospheric fill of CO2 laser mix. This would make a powerful laser that could burn stuff in a way that would would make similar physical sized pulsed ruby or Yag lasers look like a sparkler compared to a welding torch. Recovered from working equipment. Like new. I have realigned and cleaned the mirrors and this is quite a lively tube. Measured at ~0.71mW, which is quite impressive for its size. Spec is 0.3mW I think) It's optimum settings are about 1500VDC@ exactly 4.5mA with a 75K 5W ballast. The current setting is very critical with green tubes and should always be run as recommended!
